I still love Dungeons & Dragons in all it's myriad forms (except Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance), and I hope to get to back into the swing of things on these boards.

So hello everyone, hope sanity and crazy bits prevail for you all; now I go to bed.  *Kerwumph!*

Dungeon & Dragons is pretty kool, but so is 4e, have you tried that?

No, it really isn't. But at least you're willing to acknowledge that they're two separate things.

I agree, D&D isn't as cool as 4e.

Good, I'm glad we're in agreement.

Why even compare D&D to a board game?

To Silversword; I have not had as much play experience with D&D 4th Edition as I would like, but I do like many aspects of it.  Especially in regards to equipment, attack vs. defenses, and other mechanics.  Triple especially Alchemy.  For what portions I am not as fond of; house rules, common sense, and a bit of creativity smooth the gaps.

To Adhath and Erudite Ape (note to self, create psion ape-man for hell of it), I too love 3.X editions of D&D.  My current room-mates certainly are more fond of those rules and mechanics than they are of 4th.

For Clueless Rat; the answer is simple.  When Dungeons & Dragons is presented through a medium beyond board-game/Pen&Paper; such as by console and desktop games, how much one can tinker and mess with the story and systems presented is vastly different.  Especially in the story-telling department.

However, I can hope that folks everywhere can appreciate almost any system of D&D; that somehow promotes creativity, good times, and comraderie between gamers.

I liked 3.x, but from a forever DM's prespective 4e was a godsent, hence my preference. I mean, it's monster rules actually made sense, even if first MM solos were incredibly dull.
