Is it big or something?  I haven't messed with it, but it seems that quite a few people do... people like the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Office of the President.  Makes me wonder if I should look into it.

Anyone else know much about interesting things/people on twitter?

Really, I may be kinda old school but I don't care much about what someone else does at the moment or did 5 minutes ago in 4 lines of text...

To each his own I guess, but I much prefer a well articulated blog post, or something similar.

I haven't had much experience with Twitter myself, but what I've heard of it is this: it's kind of like a Wiki but with a chat room/message board environment.  People can capture current events instantly, correct them as they unfold, and comment on the results in the blink of an eye.  For example, the tsunami that nearly wiped out South East Asia a few years ago was reported via Twitter completely around the world before newcasters even knew about it.  Or so I've heard.

Like most social networking stuff, Twitter is as useful or useless as your social group wants it to be.  As I understand it, people can "tweet" anything they want; as long as it's under 42? characters in length.  And anyone can read everyone else's "tweets" online.

I find it pointless. The few good  "tweets" are kinda lost between the millions of "dude I just ate a cookie!!!1"

IT'S THE TOOL OF THE DEVIL! /srs business

on a more serious note, i could honestly care less. it's useful, but the usefulness is generally drowned out by some people's overuse of it.

The name Twitter contains the word "twit". That says eveything you need to know about it, really.

To tie to another thread, Twitter is one of my biggest complaints about pop culture (along with stuff like "Twilight", Lady Gaga, Megan Fox, smart phones, etc). I think its a prime example of how dumb people have become.

Its basically an online blogging site that puts limits on your messages because anything over the length of a text message is too much for their target audience. On top of that, it uses retarded terms like "tweet", "tweeps", "twiggas", etc. And of course, since CNN is god awful, they somehow got into a "war" with Ashton Kutcher over Twitter followers which made it explode in popularity. Man, I hate CNN.

Sorry for the rant, but its just disappointing how popular something like Twitter is.

Yeah, Twitter is pretty big.  I don't follow the Twitter myself - cuz it's stupid- but a crapton of people do.  IIRC, the character limit is 140 though you can expand that with some program or another.  I don't think you can actually post pics or video but you can link to them.  Basically, it's internet text messaging.  Kinda totally lame.

I thought that was what a chat room was for... internet text messaging (and adult entertainment related material).

...Sadly, my Business and Management teacher for this term requires that every student use it, and assigns extra credit from it...

I just recently signed up for Twitter, i can see it as being useful for keeping up with people youre never likely to actualy meet, like celebreties. Actually i just joined cause Brian R. James was having a contest for a free autographed copy of the 4e Underdark, and it was through Twitter. I ended up winning that book so yay twitter!

I quite enjoy Twitter. It's nice to use it for keeping up to date with all of the games I play.

I hate twitter with a passion. I tolerate facebook only because its the only way for me to keep in touch with a lot of people, but some people are just as bad about that. Why do you use your phone to update your status to tell us you woke up during the night for a glass of milk?

1) I don't give a flying f**k
2) No one else gives a flying f**k
3) Your phone is for CALLING people, not texting, not tweeting, not updating your FB status every 5 minutes to keep your BFF informed
4) Did I mention that I really don't give a flying f**k?

Well that's found at just about every blog/messaging/community site, bone.  Look at ours; except for the fact that most of us don't care about that petty stuff (really who cares about getting up at night and drinking milk), it can still be done.

Personally, I could do away with most of the sites; though they do have an almost instant connectivity to them, the social construct that they create practically begs you to be online almost all the time.  Not very conducive to real life relationships.  And while I do have a Face on Facebook, I don't go to it very often.

However, for a play-by-post format, the way Twitter works (as much as I've seen), it could have its merits.  The instant posting/messaging feature would allow for a more dynamic, continuitive play-by-post encounter.

Then people could tweet their rp while driving and crash to death.  I'm all in for that.  We need a smarter population, and some people are too stupid to want a better education.  Let natural selection sort that stuff out.

That could be fun...

Maybe a 3.x game, sheets hosted on Myth-Weavers... Yeah, I can see it...
