A name is one thing. Even the coinsidence of it be a "spy" doll with red hair.
But the likeness? That costs - either up front or in the lawsuits that follow. As does the tooling to produce it. And so you get already existing stock with a name slapped on it.

I honestly think her sheer hawt factor doesn't have much to do with it, it's the fact she's a spy, she got caught.

The difference is that when you're watchin' Bond, MI or one of my fav's - Our Man Flynt, you're on the side of the spy. This particular spy, while incredibly tasty, was on the other guy's team. And I suspect they chose her precisely because of the way our junk makes us react to her. ;)
It'd be a new take on an old favorite.
PS and her body is a very very nice bonus. But then Russia is somewhat infamous for using Teh Sexxorz to get info. (or at least more open about it than we are)

I wish I could argue your point, but I'm having trouble of thinking of any "straight acting"1 GLBT character in any action movies and not coming up with any. Admittedly, I don't really see many action movies, but still.
The closest I can think of is Sir Ian McKellen's portrayal of Magneto in the X-Men movies, and that was pretty subtle and more in how Sir Ian McKellen chose to read the role rather then what the writer/director put in2.
There were the mentioned characters in Watchmen, but they played it down in the movie from the comic3.
And... um... undertones in the Sherlock Holmes movie, though I think the person holding the rights has threatened to pull them if they get any less subtle about it...

Hmmm, well after actually looking at it, it looks more like an action figure than a doll, so i dont feel funny chimin in now. But any way, I dont see what the big deal is, about the doll, or the real life story. I mean the Russians using hot lookin chicks as spies? no way! I mean it does make sense, most men will tell a beautiful girl almost anything in bed. I just dont get all the hoopla over this. Anyway, toy companys have along history of making dolls action figures that look nothing like who they are supposed to be, Kenner's Star Wars figures any one? Although to be fair to Kenner's Hammerhead did look pretty much like him.

Eh. Dumbledore gets half points. You only know he's gay if you read the interview yourself or someone told you. Not to mention that while it's "word of god" [link], it's not, strictly speaking, canon [link].

Nah, but Sir Ian McKellen1 does, and stated in interviews that he played Magneto in line with his views of the character. I'm pretty sure he did, anyway. I might be on glue.
Then again, more recent (as in, in the last two decades) interpretations of Prof. X and Magneto have regularly gone a bit foe-yay [link] so I might be mixing and matching things I've read. But I'm pretty sure.
So yeah... if the gayest a character in an action movie can get without getting camp is only in actor interpretations or by the author saying "him? Oh yeah. Totally gay." then I don't think Hollywood knows that gay men can act like everyone else and still get a kiss at the end of the movie.

No way is Mystique a lesbian (not that theres anything wrong with it). Her and Wolvie have gone at it, I dont think a lesbian would find Wolverine attractive, she might be bi, or maybe shes really a dude? Maybe Wolverine is gay? (Not that theres anything wrong with it). I mean she can change shape and gender so whos to say what her/his real gender is? The only homosexual character I can think of from Marvel comics is Northstar from Awful Flight. As for canonically gay*, yes-this-is-confirmed Marvel characters in the 616 universe, there's Christian Frost1, Dorrek VIII2, Irene Adler3, Jean-Paul Beaubier4, Karolina Dean5, Raven Darkholme6, William Kaplan7, Xavin8, and probably a bunch more minor characters that I can't think of 'cause I don't read all the friggin' comics.

Now, whether he existed before this happened and just got an extra soul, or somehow the soul re-wrote history to create a teen boy to house it, I dunno. Maybe they've gotten around to explaining all that, or just hand waving it and saying "eh, who knows where the **** he really comes from" but he and his twin brother sure seem to be the weird how-the-****-did-this-happen babies of Scarlet Witch.
(Also, not only was Mystique supposed to be Nightcrawler's father, she was also supposed to be Sherlock Holmes. Don't believe me? Look up Destiny's real name. Circles and circles...)
Or to put it another way: regardless of what they prefer, guys have always been willing to compromise with what's available. Throw in shame, guilt and the desire to raise kids3...

Um, yeah. Mystique and Destiny is completely canon. They raised Rogue together. Originally Nightcrawler was going to be the child of Mystique and Destiny (Mystique turning into a man to impregnate Destiny) but the editors nixed that. Their relationship never got explicit, but that was back when they had to work around the Comic Code, jah? I'm pretty sure that later on (sometime in the early 2000s?) they went back and re-visited Destiny/Mystique and confirmed it.

Although its been almost a full year since ive purchased any comics, I still cant seem to get rid of the ones I do have though, so many memerories there. I used to have a larger collection, but unfortunatly a house fire wiped out a good half of them, as it is I still have boxes and boxes full of comics in various rooms of the house.
