My friends and I have come up with a plan to make some money in these last and worst of times. We have located a dealer in Ukraine willing to sell us an old Soviet Destroyer for pretty much nothing. Our numbers are in the 10-15 range, so we wouldn't mind additional personnel (pay is $0 a week plus loot, but may improve if we find sponsors). I will be first mate, but I assure you that the captain is fair and brave (for now; if he doesn't turn out well, we'll mutiny and I'll take his place).

So, anyone up for this opportunity for a glorious life of ship-jacking in the Red Sea?

Hell yes! Count me in.

Is it a plus that I own an M1-Carbine with a 30 shot clip and that I have both electrical repair work experience on naval vessels and I have significant experience with the elctronics of of naval vessels (antennas, radar, communications, etc.)?

Hell, this'll be the most high-tech band of pirates EVAR!

Count me in as well. But being German, I'll bring a good ol' G36c with laser sight and auxiliary grenade launcher.

Count me in. It's been a few years, but I'm sure I can get my sea legs back pretty quick. I can shoulder a rifle and I'm close enough to fluent in about a dozen languages. And I thought those job skills wouldn't ever come in handy.

I'm in, gimme a Czech V-22 and a UHC 870 shotgun and I can look after my own.
Oh, and could I get a glock? Any one'll do, although I'd prefer a G26

I can cook, fish, and clean :p

As an afterthought, has anyone ever noticed how similar Somalia and Solamnia are?

Sorry mates, but me an' the lads have been pillaging pirates round the good old Ratnakara well nigh when you lubbers were still sailing paper ships at the local pool and me boys don't treat newcomers with kid gloves.

Tell ye what. Maybe we can show ye the ropes. You scuttlers pack yer pretty toys up and sail o'er to weigh anchor in Djibouti. Ask around fer Captain Sods and his pals. We won't be a problem to find.

We'll be the ones sailin' away with yer ship!

By "No discussion or encouragment of illegal activites" or however they phrase that, what the ORC's really mean is:
No promotion of Drug use.
No promotion of violence aginst women.
No software piracy.

Thefts, vandalisim, terrorism, assault (of men or children), sexual assault (of men or children), Piracy (of the maritime sort), and probably a whole host of other things are fine. Just dont mention slapping a woman. Saying you will shoot her kids or put them in a bag, steal her car, and blowing up her house are all fine. Just don't condone striking her. Otherwise the thread will get closed.

Edit: (Now that I have mentioned abuse of women, it will probably get locked. Happy now? ORCs are an odd lot sometimes.)

Indeed! Greetings! Green Bay, eh? I've never been. I'm currently located in that little portion of hell that was somehow vomitted onto the material plane known as "Toronto".

Ah Toronto. The crowning achievement of modern Canadian achievement. {SARCASM}

Anyway, "Green Bay" is just something I made up. I live in that delightful little crossroad known as Middleofbleepingnowhere. Have you heard of it?

As pirates or privateers hunting the pirates?

If it's the latter, I'm in as ships armory officer.

If it's the former, watch your back matey.

Privateers dont hunt pirates! Normally it is used to mean pirates in the service of a nation to be pirates only towards the ships of other nations. Privateer != Pirate Hunter.

Privateers are private enforcers of their nation's hegemony. According the the US laws regarding privateering, anyone with a letter of marque can go after pirate vessels and the vessels of nations we are at war with.

According to a US congressional bill, terrorists may also be classified as pirates, which would make it legal to go after their butts too.
