Sep 27, 2008 22:14:04 Okay, this is a long shot, but I remember reading something about a D&D campaign setting from the late 70's or early 80's, and I even remember reading a dungeon or dragon magazine article on it.

Granted, I don't remember much about the setting, other than the following:

1. Humans got to the world from a space ship (or something), and got stuck in a demiplane or something.

2. Once in the plane, people started to develop magic.

3. And apparently none of the races got along.

Sep 27, 2008 23:52:31 Hmmmm, can't say I've heard of it. Sounds like it might be something based loosely off of the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon from back in that day, people getting pulled into a fantasy world to deal with problems like that. There are tons of stories based around that idea after all in literature.

As for a specific issue of Dragon, I haven't seen it in one yet. I've got a lot of back issues I'm still reading though so if I find it I'll let you know.

Sep 28, 2008 2:04:56 Yeeep, I'm afraid I don't have anything close to issue 7. I've got issues under 100 but nothing under like the 40's, sorry. Paizo's website has some cover pictures of various early issue dragon magazines, but of course that's all sold out long ago.

Ahhh, back when it was just The Dragon, and only cost a $1.50.

It was an early early issue, like #6 type of thing...it was about military formations or something.

I have the dragon magazine cd set. #7 has an article about military formations but didn't really describe a setting from what I read. They have some Metamorphosis Alpha and Gamma World stuff around those issues. Nothing that I could quickly find to match what you describe.

The opening narrative was in the form of logs of audio recordings from the spaceship, with them coming fewer and further between, until the humans no longer remembered how to operate the controls, no?

If we're remembering the same thing, I remember thinking it was cool.

back when the magazine was called "The Dragon", cost about $1.50, and games-workshop sponsored a D&D gamesday.

Oct 06, 2008 9:21:34 LOL. I'm such an old-timer, I know the answer off the bat.

For you younglings, MAR Barker's Tékumel was the first D&D campaign setting - EVER! This setting was published when Greyhawk and Blackmoor was little more then point-of-light settings.

The setting is vary rich and detailed - and a bit difficult to get into if your accustomed to Tolkien-styled settings. This site has lots of background for the setting.
