I'm making a Bard (College of Lore) who will be starting out at 12th level.  I've never played a bard so I'm not sure what kind of equipment such a character would use, much less what magic items such a character might level.  I need advice in the following categories and would love any feedback folks can suggest:

- Weapon: Not sure, he's not melee, but what would a bard have?  He's more of a caster, but a lot of "caster" weapons like staves and such can only be attuned to Wizards, Warlocks or Sorcs.

- Armor: Or other defensive suggestions?

-  Utility:  I assume this character woudl hvae a few of these, again just looking for suggestions for a Lore bard.

Thank you for any feedback on these topics!

Thanks.  Is there anything like Gauntlets of Ogre Power, but for dexterity?

Make sure you have a neat musical instrument or two. And some snazzy clothes. Perhaps a weapon or two and maybe some frill-laced armor if that's your bag.

Other than that, there's not much difference in what a 12th level bard is walking around with vs. a low level one. Other than quality, I suppose. Or would at least hope.

For specific choices it helps to know race, background, etc.

As for the quarterstaff, that's a bit iffy for a bard, IMO. If you are planning on playing an instrument as your spell focus, that is.

yeah its worth serious consideration to take a 3 level dip into sorcerer for access to Natural armor, and metamagic. or two levels in warlock for eldritch blast and then you don't even have to worry about carrying a weapon because eldritch blast.

and no, there are no Belt of Giant strength equivalents for the other stats, which is kinda BS but there you go.

I'm trying to avoid multi-classing, it always seemed a bit like meta-gaming and min/maxing to me.  Trying ot keep his class "pure" to keep the bard feel  Having said that, it would be nice to one day be able to attune a staff of power, which he can't do if he's pure bard.....

Good advice all around though, thanks folks!
