Hi All,
Several folks have noticed a lack of spells by school. I spent some time and put together a spell spreadsheet that lists all the spells by class, level, school, and some other quick reference items.
For those who aren't familiar with Excel column filtering, please see this information.
An example:
The Arcance Trickster can only select spells from the Wizard list, levels 1-4 (Ignoring Cantrips for this) except for a few special slots where they can pick any Wizard spell. So, before creating your AT, you aren't sure if that small set of spells is for you, but, how to find which spells those are? The PH doesn't really allow you to easily determine that. However, it's easy with the spreadsheet. Simply filter spells by Wizard, Level (1, 2, 3, and 4), then Schools (Enchantment and Illusion.)
Now you have the main list of spells you can choose for your character.

Noticed a couple minor issues and updated spreadsheet. I've also linked to the d20 SRD for Trap the Soul, a missing 8th level Wizard spell. It'll do until we get an offical 5th edition copy. If they post a link, I'll get the spreadsheet updated to point to it.

as to WOTC concerns: you aren't providing the full spell description. historically, WOTC has been fan friendly re: fan-created supplemental spreadsheets that continue pointing users to their book products (see also SWSE).

Some of the highlights are that I've tagged each spell by type (battlefield control, buff, debuff, utility, single target attack, multi-target attack), as well as whether or not the spell is combat focused. These tags were applied manually. I also typed in any spell that has an upgrade and the target (60' cone, self, 1 creature, 10' burst, 15' blast...), as well as the save relied on, N/A for spells that don't need a save, or "No" for spells that don't provide a save which are pretty powerful. It has the usual casting time, ritual Y/N, spell level that a particular class can cast it at, school. I've got it open for anyone to edit. Feel free to make adjustments / corrections. Realize that some uses of filterings and sortings may mangle the data. In such a situation I will be reverting the the last known good state. This shouldn't happen often.

I made yet another excel sheet with spells, mostly because (well, at the time I started working on it anyways), there wasn't a spell list that featured everything I needed. Some didn't have information such as cast time, others didn't specify which classes could cast them, yet others did but were lacking differentation between domains/specs/oaths etc.
The one already posted here is very complete, if I'd have had it when I started working on this sheet I don't think I'd have bothered. Anyways, in this spell list I tried to be as complete as reasonably possible. The sheet contains the following information:
- Spell Name (duh)
- Spell Level
- Spell School
- Which class can cast it, including the name of the domain/oath/etc when it's limited to only that domain (e.g. Only Vengeance paladins can cast Bane)
- A short category: Buff, Charm, Damage, Debuff, Guarding, Healing, Summon, Travel, Utility. See below for some notes on this.
- The spell target.
- Casting time
- Concentration Yes/No
- Ritual Yes/No
- Spell effect duration
- Spell range
- Components (V,S,M, gold cost)
- Scales with level (can it be cast in a higher spell slot?)
- A short description of the spell's effect.
A few notes on the Category: I tried to categorize the spells by how they are actually being used. An example: Teleport is categorized as "Travel", because it's most commonly used to travel large distances. Misty Step is utility (could have been Buff as well I suppose) even though basically it does the same thing, which is teleport, but over a much smaller distance. The difference is of course the way the spell is used, Misty Step is used in combat to close distances, move without provoking opportunity attacks or to reach enemies in hard to reach places, while teleport is used to travel to some other location.
The same goes for "target" and "spell range". Some spells are cast on one's self, but cause an effect on other creatures. In some cases, the range or area of the spell is noted in the description as well. Please note that the short description is not complete and lacks information. It is only intended to give a quick idea of the spell's function when selecting spells etc.
All columns have a filter and are of course sortable, so it should be easy enough to select only say, cleric-spells which can be cast as a ritual, or paladin spells not requiring concentration etc.

Hey guys! Me and a few friends put together a webbased spell list with what we got so far in the Player's Handbook.
With this tool you can view all spells and search them by the following filters: class, level, school, casting time, ritual, concentration, durantion and range.
Considering how unhelpful the Player's Handbook can be when it comes to selecting spells for your characters - especially if you want to create an Arcane Trickster or Eldritch Knight! - this can be an extremely useful tool for any d&d gaming session. So enjoy!

P.S.: We are still working on the list, so there might be a few mistakes here and there. If you sign up you can leave comments on spells and spell lists, besides being able to create your own spell lists.
Nerdbrooke: Very nice work, I would indeed as you've suggested welcome a comment field where people could, for instance, suggest alternative or uncommon uses for particular spells.
One small point of criticism though, it doesn't list spells which become available to some classes upon taking a oath, domain or patron etc. For example, Vengeance paladins gain access to the bane spell, I think that's quite important to know when selecting spells etc.
Other than that great work!
Would it be too much to ask for PHB Page numbers? I notice that the PHB kind of dropped the ball on that department too.

This is great, can i please be greedy and ask for:
- Damage by type column (Fire/Cold etc.) Its useful if youre intending to focus on one element as a Sorc or for Tempest clerics to know what the Thunder/Light spells are
- A column that marks a spell as 'Scales at Higher levels' Yes or No
