"Paladin" of Wrath - character help

I have an idea for a Paladin of Wrath character.  It's going to be a fighter/fiend pact bladelock with the fiend pact re-fluffed to be a pact with an angel of wrath.

So far my plan is fighter 1 for the 2h fighting style, heavy armor, and con saves then warlock 1-5 to get thirsting blade.  I haven't decided on which invocations to get initially.  I plan to use Armor of Agathys a lot to help bolster my damage and provide a buffer until I can drop someone to get the temp hp from dark one's blessing.

My first conundrum is which two invocations to get in the beginning.  I'm leaning towards fiendish vigor and devil's sight, but I'm iffy on the vigor.  It'd be nice to have the temp HP for when AoA isn't available, but I'm not sure how much use I'll get out of it.  Eventually I'd like to get Inspiring Leader if my stats will allow it.  I'd definitely drop fiendish vigor after that.

Second, I'm debating on where to go after level 6.  On one hand going to fighter 4 will net me action surge and improved critical.  At that point it's only two more levels for a second feat.  That will get me extra attack and I can re-train thirsting blade to a different invocation.  On the other hand if I continue with warlock I'll get dark one's own luck, more invocations, and increased spell power.

I haven't quite decided, but ultimately I think I'll be a warlock 12, fighter 8, but realisticly I never plan on a character going past level 12 or so because I've never been in a long term camaign.  One of the downfals of moving every three to four years.

Would not Oathbreaker be a better fit?

Temporary HP does not stack. So Fiendish Vigor won't stack with Dark One's Blessing. And it won't stack with Inspiring Leader, either. Perhaps this makes your choices a little easier.

Also, have you considered Vengeance Paladin and Warlock? It seems like Smite would really fit what you're trying to do here. Warlock Spell Slots work with Smite, too.

Paladin is traditional. I'm trying to go outside the box. And oath breaker is too necrotic themed for my tastes. Plus I'm not sure how many levels I would get from the non warlock class so the auras probably wouldn't be a factor. I really want to go for the lots of temp HP with this guy. I know temp HP doesn't stack with other sources temp HP. The thought behind vigor was to make sure I could always go into a fight with some as a buffer before the blessing kicked in and for those fights where AoA isn't available. I probably wouldn't be getting inspiring leader until lvl 9 if at all. But I'm leaning away from vigor.

""Paladin" of Wrath".

So you want to be a Paladin, without being a Paladin, because you don't want to be a Paladin? *headscratch*

But doesn't the Paladin's Smite ability coincide with unleashing an angels wrath? I may be wrong, but the strength of the Smite would correlate to the strength of the spell slot. So a Warlock spell slot, at the strength of a Level 3 spell, would do 4d8 damage. Twice per short rest off the Warlock slots, but it would, of course, compete without actual Warlock spells. Hmm... Yeah, you intended on going mostly Warlock. Not going Paladin and dipping Warlock, you're aiming for the opposite.

lol, I can understand the confusion.  There are two sides to every coin.  Not every fighter is a fighter and not every rogue is a rogue if you get my drift.  I could make a fighter cleric and call it a paladin.  Being a Paladin of wrath is the in game distincion.  Mechanically it's a fighter warlock with the angelic wrath (fiendish) pact.  That's why I put the paladin in quotes for the title.

I was trying to focus on a way to channel the wrath of an angel. Which you have to admit, totally fits. Fighter/Warlock totally works as a character, even just starting Fighter for a level or two. But the Fiend Pact's focus on Fire almost screams Fire Knight more than Wrathful Knight.

Probably the one ability that I wish I could get is the warcaster ability of the eldritch knight.  AoA combined with half damage would be a nice combination.

I must not be understanding Armour of Agathis right cause people keep talking about it and I keep reading it and it wouldnt be a spell for me.
The way I read it you get 5 temp HP. Some one hits you, you will prob loose that 5 in one go but they take 5 cold damage. For a one shot go neither the protection it gives nor the damage it deals is significant. For a class who has limited slots it seems like a bad choice to me..... Do the 5 temp hit points come back some how? does it stack with fiendish Vigor or dark ones blessing? Please explain.

Resistance applies to the total damage you receive, that happens first. So if you get hit for 10 damage, you really take 5. That's then taken off your Temp HP before your real HP.
