| #1cdiddy1980Feb 12, 2015 21:54:03 | I have a few things I'd like to ask, so bear with me.
1. I play a Level 3 Ranger in a D&D 5e game named Meridious Decimus. Our DM has this thing he does when one of us kills a major bad guy or scores a big damage output kill; he will say "Tell me how this guy dies". So we get to describe in detail how the bad guy dies. We love it but are wondering if any of you have DMs that do the same thing and/or what are some of the coolest or most creative ways you've heard one of your players describing a kill. What are some things your DM does that others haven't done in previous games?
2. Meridious's main weapon is the two handed heavy crossbow, and I took the Crossbow expert feat (human variant option). He has a maul, whip, dagger, and short sword as backups. His spells are Hunter's Mark, Animal Friendship, and Fog Cloud. What would be some creative things to do in combat with these things? I do the basic stuff; shoot and kill, but with no flavor.
3. Kinda harkening back to number 2, except for non combat role playing. My DM came up with a new background option called Faebound. Meridious' old backstory he was a ranger turned soldier who married a wizard lady. Evil bad guy Warlock thought her family was keeping an ancient book he needed to become a great necromancer, etc. Long story short he kills her when she couldn't or wouldn't give him the info he needed. Meridious was there, tried to stop him, but couldn't and almost died in the encounter. The Faebound background comes into play now with either them having a problem with the Warlock and chose Meridious (whom they save so now is in debt to them) to do their bidding or he sought them out to help him track down and kill Warlock. I haven't decided which option I am gonna take on that one. What are some good role play hooks to do here as well as just in general as a Ranger. Meridious is Chaotic Good.
4. Our group consists of a ranger, a sorcerer, a druid, a cleric, a fighter, a rouge, and another ranger. Most of us are CG or CN, thus our group name of "Chaos Inc". Most are dice rollers who don't put much into the role play aspect. However there's two at the table that do and they tend to bogart the table so I think the rest of us just don't bother trying to speak up. Have any of you guys had to deal with that in a large group?
5. What are some of the funniest, craziest, coolest, and most creative things you've seen players do in your campaign?
We recently had a Paladin in our group who is no longer playing. When he did play, he did not play the part right. Did a lot of un Paladin things. For instance one time when we were coming off mission and chilling in the tavern, two dwarven sisters were arguing in a corner. He decides to go up and calm them down, which was great because it is something a Paladin would do. However, when the sisters told him to mind his own business, he flipped out and started cussing them and tried to grab both and hurl them across the bar. Before that, he used poison daggers on enemies we fought, which our DM didn't like.
Most recently he lobbed one of his javelins in a pool of swamp water in a flooded temple we were searching. He wanted to see how deep the water was. No problem, except for the fact he did not tie any rope to it and THREW it in there instead of holding it at one end or something. He got mad because the DM said he lost the javelin and wasn't gettting it back. Not to be outdone, he goes and dives right in to give chase to his missing javelin.... in full plate armor. Mind you he didn't dicuss any of this with any of the other members (we were busy rolling perception checks and trying to see if there were other ways to go about it other than the water). Needless to say, he got swallowed by a swamp monster and almost died. Later in the same sesson after our awesome cleric healed him up real good, we go into this other section of the temple. We were up on a cat walk about ten feet above the water. Our rouge spots a door/passageway a little above water level below us. Before we can even think of making plans, our Paladin says "I'm gonna be the bold one here" and dives into the water near where the passage way is. Long story short, water monsters got surrpise round on us, damn near kicked our asses, and our Paladin was one death saving throw away from being dead, but he rolled a nat 20. Lucky bastard lol.

4) this is more on the GM than the role players. The GM needs put the focus on each player and give them the chance to shine. I will say it's a pretty weak excuse to claim that someone else is doing a lot of something so that's why you don't try.
5) the Sorceror cast change self and then bluff all the bad guys into going the wrong way as the rest of the players escaped. |
