Hey guys kind of new to D&D.

I have a 4th level duelist Half-Orc fighter 16,12,16,8,10,13.

Who weilds a +1 sword and shield as his main weapons.

The current group Im with likes gorrila tactics and ambushes.

wearing them down from afar before engaging.

Which is fine with me I Have a heavy crossbow aswell.

After the initial volley or two when they realise where we are.

The battle changes for me and I get in there with my Sword and shield.

Only problem is that It takes a full action to equip my shield even if I drop my crossbow.

So mainly forced to ingage with just sword.

Are there any ways around this e.g.

equiping shield as a bonus action. or just choosing not to shoot with crossbow?.

You can switch to thrown weapons like javelins for your initial volley and equip the shield beforehand... or maybe you can acquire an animated shield and gain the benefit of a shield without having to dedicate use of a hand to it.

That sounds like an interesting option. Didnt think of that, could drop the crossbow for a few javalins. Going down in damage to make sure I have a solid AC 18. Thanks Aaron
