| #1NativeNewporterJun 21, 2015 13:40:22 | Greetings, I've been following the Dealing Death guide and am leveling up a fighter/rogue ranged assassin build.. Can any experienced assassins assist me with level progression? I am currently 2F/1R. Human Variant. (Heavy crossbow)
How should I decide between rogue and fighter levels as I progress? My first thought is get 3 rogue levels then advance fighter class through 6? I ultimately intend to end up 11F / 9R.
Or should I level the fighter up through 5, then level the rogue?
Fighting Style: Archer Archetype: Battlemaster Feats: Level 1, Xbow Expert, Fighter Level 4 Alert, Fighter Level 6 Sharpshooter ASI: Rogue level 4 Dex +2 (20). Rogue Level 8 CHA+2 (20) Fighter Level 8 WIS+2 (16) Background: Criminal
Open to suggestions thanks.

It is very cheesy and I'm not sure I'd allow it, but it works.
Even without that, all your attacks that hit are also crits, SA or not, if the enemy is surprised. So action surge is tasty regardless. |

Either way, I'd go Fighter 1 to start so you can get medium armor, Archery style, and to shore up your saves in the places they'll lack the most (STR & CON). Yes you'll lose a skill, but I think it'll be worth it in the long run. If you're going variant Human, I'd grab Sharpshooter instead of Crossbow Expert. Stats should be DEX, then WIS & CHA.
From there, I'd go Rogue to 4 to pick up Assassination and your DEX bump. Then Fighter to 3 for Battle Master, definitely picking up Precision Attack. Then it's all Rogue from there.
In combat, you'll use your bonus action to remain mobile and hide if need be. You'll key most of your Sneak Atttacks off of you allies, as shooting into the fight is easy for you thanks to Sharpshooter. You're looking for one hit, one kill scenarios. One less guy for your allies to fight every time you pull that trigger is your goal. You can be looking at +2 to hit, 22(1d10 + 1d6 + 13) damage at level 2. That'll waste nearly anything at that level. Even the 12 base average damage without the Sharpshooter +10 will kill most any appropriate level creature.
Expertise in Perception and Stealth to start will set you up for your surprise assassinations.
Those are my thoughts on a ranged Assassin anyhow. |

More sneak attack means swingy, spiky attacks, whereas Extra attack means more consistant, reliable damage. Personally, I'd go Assassin to 3, Fighter to 11, Assassin to 9. |
