| #1LashanNov 11, 2014 15:00:51 | Hi All,
I find the 3 options in the PHB to be a bit limiting. Anyone know of any alternative options that someon might have conjured up? Or some ideas to help make one? For Patrons, I'm thinking of:
-an Elemental Lord. Pick one element and get bonus spells of that type. Also resistance to that element. -Agent of Good - Angle type thing? Some other being? -Anything else? Would demi-gods grant power? -I'd love for any other options
I'm still new to 5th Ed and I don't want to make an alternative that would be weak or too powerful. I'd appreciate ANY help! |

Does anyone know of any home brewed ones? Or perhaps have suggestions for the ideas above?
Maybe some sort of storm being, too. Deals with thunder and electricity? I do like the elemental one, though. There are enough Djinn and other beings to make it happen. |

| #8YunruNov 11, 2014 17:05:48 | Okay, I'll reword what I previously said: Either have said Agent of Good be a fey, tell the old hag to sod off (don't really), or carefully cross out every use of the word "fiend" and replace it with "angel". Some other alterations may need to be made for it to make sense. At worst it gives you a base to work from. |
| #9LashanNov 11, 2014 17:44:15 | @Morukai: While I appreicate the ideas for specific beings, I'm more looking for rules and powers that might not be too much. Thanks, though.

| #10MorukaiNov 11, 2014 18:37:27 | Consider these alternatives for some of the ones on your list:
Slow on the 3rd level list instead of Protection from Energy. Slow just strikes me as more "earthy" for some reason.
Maybe Stone Shape on the 4th instead of one of the ones listed (Stoneskin, if you choose to use my version of Endurance of the Earth below)
Since warlocks can already get an invocation that lets them use Conjure Elemental (Minions of Chaos), I recommend avoiding that one as an expanded spell list option. Consider Passwall instead?
Regarding the level abilities:
Power of the Earth seems pretty reasonable if you limit it to a few times per long rest.
Listen to the Earth looks good.
Endurance of the Earth- while I understand the draw, I think it should be different than an existing power. If you swap in Stone Shape for Stoneskin as I suggested above, you could let the warlock gain a once-per-long-rest use of Stoneskin here instead (without the need for components, including the material component).
Maybe at 14th level, you could do something similar to the Imprisonment spell, but limiting it to the burial version, and changing the duration to concentration (1 minute). Or a less-powerful Earthquake effect of some sort, since warlocks already get Imprisonment as a possible 9th level one-shot?
Just some thoughts.
Edit: I just realized that Slow is also one of the invocation possibilities. I guess Protection from Energy is the only one left that would make the most sense for that level after all...

| #11pupoochiNov 11, 2014 20:56:12 | Well here's one i made a couples weeks ago... Celestial Patron, a kind of "good" type warlock http://community.wizards.com/forum/player-help/threads/4136336 |
| #12LashanNov 12, 2014 5:07:14 | @Morukai: Thanks for the input! One thing that I was thinking of staying away from was just giving spell abilities for the various powers. So, Endurance of Earth....I didn't just want to give a spell. All the other Warlocks get special abilities. So, I didn't just want to give a free spell. I wanted to make something different. I think I'd rather copy an existing power than give a spell. I'm not sure if that's the best option, but I think it might be better (for me). As for the last power at 14th, I'll have to think about it. There seem to be a number that do big damage to one target. I've thought about some sort of stone shaping that would trap everyone in a 30 ft radius (that you want) to have the ground grab their feet. I'm not fully sure on that or just do a big damage bit. I want to do something unique.

| #13YunruNov 12, 2014 5:32:58 | I'd make it medium armor and shield. I'd also try to fit Sanctuary on there somewhere. |
| #14SterlingRatNov 12, 2014 7:10:14 | What about using an ancient dragon as his patron? There's a lot of fluff synergy between the fiend's demonic powers and what an elder fire-dragon might offer, so there's no need to create a whole new thing... just change the flavor of the powers that refer to "darkness" into "flames". His price could be consuming the blood of evil dragons, or tattoos made from ink infused with dragon blood. |
| #15LashanNov 12, 2014 8:25:41 | Are dragons that powerful that they can give away a portion of power to form a Warlock? I guess I could rule it any way I want, but it might work. There is always Bahumet that can give the power.
I should also think of some sort of Cold or Ice power, too. Maybe a demi-god or some-such. What I should probably do is talk with the kid to see what it is he's most interested in and then go from there! |

| #17Knight_MarshalNov 12, 2014 20:17:45 | I have thought there should be a death pact type of warlock who pledges to some uber lich or death god for power and gains some cool necro and death related abilities and spells. |

| #20YunruNov 13, 2014 15:58:44 | My patron is the Great Platypus, surely an Old One made flesh. |

| #22LashanNov 18, 2014 7:03:20 | So....the kid picks an Air Elemental patron! Well....then changes his mind to "hobbit" rogue. At least, that's what he's thinking now. Might make it easier than making up my own patron. I'll have his Dad be the wizard. |

| #25ElfcrusherNov 24, 2014 14:13:24 | Ok, so what would the Pact features look like for Heat Miser and Snow Miser? |
| #26LashanNov 25, 2014 8:53:55 | It might require a level of bard before you can take it. The song and dance routine is needed in the ritual to invoke the Powers that Be. |
