Am I missing something on knowledge clerics?

I can see how a knowledge cleric can lock down a powerful enemy as long as they can get in there head but by doing that it takes them the cleric out of combat for the most point. If it's party vrs 1 or a few that might be ok but if there is a swarm of enemy's it's kind of useless.

Or am I missing something ?

So the ability is useful in many situations, but not particular useful in certain others?  Yeah, that sounds about right.

Not unlike the enchanter's hypnotic gaze.  If you're fighting something that seems overly menacing, using your turn to shut the creature down for its turn might be worth it.  Using the same ability to lock down a kobold or a rat... not worth it at all.  Using it to lock down Tiamat for a turn... potentially life saving (if it works).

like already said: you got the BBEG who is about to kill the fighter who got only 1 HP left, you can A attack the BBEG but you probably cannot kill him this turn, heal the fighter giving him 1d8+3 HP (probably less then what the bug bear will do in damage and still bring the fighter to 0) or stop the bug bear from attacking the fighter allowing the fighter to survive and he can attack (and teh rogue and the wizard and 3 attack will probably kill the bug bear)

the party is full health and facing 10 little goblin, might as well let teh wizard do burning hand, and you can cast shield of faith on the fighter it will be more usefull.

don'T be a one trick pony, you need to choose your spell and ability to face multiple situation.

SO what you cast if facing 1 singel high AC low damage monster? cast bless?

What you do if facing a high damage low AC monster? cast shield of faith?

What you do if you face a horde of monster? let the wizard handle it?

What you do if....
