#1 BohoMojambo Feb 08, 2015 10:45:49	Hey,   I'm currently playing a Totemic Warrior Barbarian. The way I'm role playing him is that as his totemic connection to animals increases, his human personality is slowly giving way to his cold-blooded animalistic side.   What I'm looking for are personality traits and behaviors that a character like this might evince in roleplay. A few that I've come up with.   -Food dominance (do not disturb him when eating and NEVER EVER try to take his food) -Pack leadership issues (obviously playing a lot of the dominance stuff lightly so as to not make things difficult for the other players) -Inappropriate scratching/cleaning of self -Heightened aggressiveness around strangers   I'm looking for more suggestions.
#2 Nevvur Feb 08, 2015 13:21:11	- Lifts his head and sniffs the air when making perception checks. - Also sniffs at new people (after the heightened aggressiveness has passed) - Urinates in multiple locations around the camp when the party rests in the wilderness - Never smiles as a way of showing pleasure. That's baring his teeth, a sign of aggression. - Grunts or growls for yes/no conversational responses.
#3 Chameleon-X Feb 09, 2015 11:12:07	I should point out that most of the behaviors above listed are dog behaviors, and probably would mostly be appropriate for a wolf totem. For the Eagle, you could have him **** his head to the side and glare at everyone without blinking, or spread his arms (especially for duel-wielding) and screech when he's angry. For bear, you could have him stand up and puff out his chest when threatened, and give an intimidating roar. Or, you could have him root around in the grass, or try to catch fish with his teeth. Having him climb trees and squat in the branches would work too.
#4 BohoMojambo Feb 09, 2015 12:22:24	Yeah, I mostly went with dog behaviors because dogs I'm most familiar with them.   Good suggestions. I should point out that my totem powers aren't connected to one particular animal (Bear/Eagle/Wolf.) in fact, I'm taking one of each.   My Barbarian comes from the steppe. So any suggestions particular to fauna from that region would be especially useful.
#5 BRJN Feb 09, 2015 18:47:14	Planning to sneak?  Stretches out flat on his belly and crawls that way for a distance, then pops up to look around (like meerkat). Stuffs a bunch of traveller's bread into his chipmunk cheeks and goes off to eat alone.  Doesn't work so well with hot-from-the-kettle stew. Buffalo-style dominance test that involves leaning on each other with full weight until somebody loses their footing.  Replaces arm-wrestling. Banshee wail when going into Rage (this is how the hawk's prey hears it). Some mice will NEVER go off the trail.  This may be too crippling, so turn it around: always wants to get off the trail, "it's too exposed". Uproots a bunch of reeds / grass and uses them as camouflage for his head and shoulders. With help from a calm pool of water, puts ink into his hair - maybe grass yellow-green or roughly like some animal's hide color at a fast glance. Some rattlesnakes live on the prairie.  His first sign that somebody is annoying him is to shake a few rattles (like he's going to roll dice). Believes the best way to get in touch with the most amount of nature at once is to climb a tree - huge visibility. When camping for the night, builds a sod windbreak to protect the fire.  Dirt side always faces flame.  Builds fire in the hole thus carved out of the turf. Learn a tight-lipped grin / smile.  May still come out looking creepy, but allows display of pleasure. Humor: occasionally does the deep-voiced Smokey Bear "ONLY YOU can prevent wildfires" when somebody else is incautious. Rabbit-style wants to long-jump over streams, creeks, and rivulets. Always can find some herbs to drop in the cookpot.  Some of them are medicinal too.   If you can find a book like Wild Animals of Kansas (to make up a generic title), you can get more ideas.  I found Mammals of Indiana very helpful for an old GAMMA WORLD campaign I put together.
