#1 Kron-Karn Aug 26, 2015 13:10:22	Here's the scenario. There is a Pc and the monster he is fighting. The pc has the Grappler feat. Let's say the monster initiates the grapple. The rules say they now both have the grappled condition.   Firstly does the pc still gets adv on its atts from the Grappler feat even though he didn't initiate the grapple?   Second can the Pc use the shove special Att action to push the monster prone even though he didn't initiate the grapple?   Third when the monster initiates the grapple can you choose not to roll your Str check to ensure the grapple begins?   Finally lets say this monster figured out that it had grappled the wrong guy and wants to get out of there as the grappler he can end the grapple then disengage can the Pc some how force him to make a Str check even though he didn't initiate the grapple?

If you’re able to make multiple attacks with the Attack action, this attack replaces one o f them. The target o f your grapple must be no more than one size larger than you, and it must be within your reach. Using at least one free hand, you try to seize the target by making a grapple check, a Strength (Athletics) check contested by the target’s Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check (the target chooses the ability to use). If you succeed, you subject the target to the grappled condition (see appendix A). The condition specifies the things that end it, and you can release the target whenever you like (no action required).   Grappled (PHB290) • A grappled creature’s speed becomes 0, and it can't benefit from any bonus to its speed. • The condition ends if the grappler is incapacitated (see the condition). • The condition also ends if an effect removes the grappled creature from the reach of the grappler or grappling effect, such as when a creature is hurled away by the thunderwave spell.     Grappler (PHB161) • You have advantage on attack rolls against a creature you are grappling. • You can use your action to try to pin a creature grappled by you. To do so, make another grapple check. If you succeed, you and the creature are both restrained until the grapple ends. 1) No he is grappled, not grappling the creature. 2) No see 1 3) I believe you can. Just say you don't try to avoid it or roll and say it's a 1. Its a nice RP moment. 4) The PC must make a Grapple attempt to keep the Creature in place as he did not initiate the grapple..
#3 Leugren Aug 26, 2015 18:34:26	The creature which initiated the grapple is not grappled; only the target is grappled.  There is nothing in the rules which states that "both creatures are grappled".   1) No, because the creature which initiated the grappled is not grappled. 2) Yes, there is nothing in the rules which states that a grappled creature is not allowed to use the Shove attack action.  All it states is that his movement speed is reduced to 0.  He can take any actions which do not require movement.  He can even choose to grapple the creature which is currently grappling him. 3) Sure, but doing so does not grant you any benefit, since the initiator of the grapple is not automatically grappled. 4) No, the PC cannot force the initiator of the grapple to make a Strength check in order to successfully release the PC from the grapple.
#4 Kron-Karn Aug 26, 2015 15:58:44	2) the shoving a creature is just another type of Att. You can Att normally when you are grappled the creatures speed isn't 0 like yours so it'll be able to get up.
