| #1FunkySpunkApr 07, 2015 11:41:15 | i think the Bow Bond thread on here is fantastic.
Has anybody made a similar guide for the melee Eldritch Knight? |
| #2melloredApr 07, 2015 11:49:21 | No.
Would you like to make one? |

| #4FunkySpunkApr 07, 2015 15:47:57 | Found this one: Eldritch Knight Tactica |
| #5FunkySpunkApr 07, 2015 15:49:32 | And there's one on YouTube. I find this one very entertaining. |
| #6ObeseBoyWonderApr 07, 2015 17:53:24 | I mean Koga's guide has a lot of useful info in it too. I don't see it mentioned so: TADA! |
| #7FunkySpunkApr 19, 2015 7:24:31 | Thanks!
I'm really starting to love this class!
What do I need to do to get Eldritch Knight Tactica added to the post with the links to all the guides? It's been immensely helpful! |
| #8TehAnonApr 23, 2015 5:22:39 | Really loving E. Knight after taking time to look through all the guide materials. Just what I been looking for for a super BEEFY meatsponge character. Gonna roll up a hill dwarf and have at it with a buddy of mine whose also rolling a Dwarf(barbarian!) Good times will be had. |
| #9SterlingRatApr 23, 2015 9:21:32 | He (The gent that wrote Eldrich Knight Tactica, that is) seriously overvalues Blade Ward. Casting it means you aren't attacking. If you aren't attacking, you can dodge and not have to have a free hand for a somatic spell component. In my opinion, Dodge>Blade Ward. The only time blade ward becomes slightly better than dodge is when you can attack after a cantrip... but if that's the case, you are now giving up 2 attacks because you will already have the extra attack feature and you should have the HP to survive a punch or two.
|
| #10melloredApr 23, 2015 10:10:10 | Blade Ward > dodge when you have low AC.
Still pretty much never worth the cantrip slot though. |
| #11FabulousRexApr 23, 2015 19:19:32 | ...Eh, maybe if you're trying to be the Ultimate Tank would I consider Blade Ward. I would also take Resilient Wisdom ASAP! Nothing is worse than a Fighter being Dominated than a Fighter with Nuke Spells being dominated.
In general, I think the baseline Fighter features make you quite tough enough without having to dump a ton of resources into more Survivability. The spell list has much better defensive options than great offensive options. It handles AOE quite well, but only upcast Scorching Ray can dump out the damage, so I would highly recommend that spell if you're packing the 20 INT to hit with it! |
| #12FunkySpunkApr 23, 2015 20:00:41 | Blade Ward is not on my EK's wish list.
He is currently 6th level. He has a 21 AC, 26 when Shield kicks in. If you can hit that, then I'll take the damage with a smile.
I'd rather have Shocking Grasp.
BTW, one of his feats is Resilient (WIS). As a Hill Dwarf, he has a 16 WIS. Pretty sweet! |
| #13WeedeaterApr 23, 2015 22:59:07 | I agree fighter really doesn't need blade ward. Better would be to just pick blur or something for a level two spell if you really want to be invincible. 26 AC with enemies having disadvantage to hit you? Plus hopefully a good con score to maintain concentration on the slim slim off chance you are hit? |
| #14durntaurApr 24, 2015 14:15:35 | I've been interested in building a melee EK also and was interested in that tactica. Unfortunately, it appears there are a couple of rules misunderstanding with it that make it's reliability suspect and consequently makes it mechanically less effective; e.g. using Action Surge to cast 2 fireballs at L13 and then getting two bonus weapon attacks via War Magic. Fireball doesn't qualify for War Magic until Fighter18 and one is limited to one bonus action per turn. |
| #15zarzakApr 24, 2015 18:01:24 | I don't know about that Eldritch Knight Tactica ... the fact that he gives Blade Ward a higher rating than Haste ... |
| #16cannonfodderApr 24, 2015 19:21:28 | I believe he's building more of a dmg sponge than a DPR machine is why Blade ward is listed so high as well as taking Defensive fighting style. As it is It is a guide so you'd have to decide what your doing against what the guide suggests. |
| #17durntaurApr 27, 2015 11:44:48 | It's a guide with misinformation. It really doesn't matter if it ranks a spell that is popularly regarded as more powerful than many other options lower than generally regarded weaker spells, its opinions are objectively suspect due to a demonstrated misunderstanding of the basic rules. |

| #19NoctaemApr 28, 2015 6:36:08 | My spouse is currently playing an EK at level 6 and she's been enjoying it so far. She's looking forward to the level 7 feature. |
| #20zagora_01Apr 28, 2015 9:18:42 | Hello,
Im a long time player and DM of Dnd and a fan of the Character Op guides. I'm also a lover of Fighter/Mage types. I am currently playing two types of Fighter/Mages. One is a pure Eldritch Knight played in Expeditions, and the other is a Fighter/Mage being played in Encounters. My intention was to see how the two compare.
I think I will try and make a Guide to fighter/mages or Gish Characters. I will try and have the first of it going within the next two weeks. i've never made a guide, so be kind. |

| #23FunkySpunkApr 30, 2015 17:37:50 | I look forward to this guide, zagora_1!
I personally favor a level split of 7/13 or 11/9 (EK/Wiz). |
