Hey all,

I have been trying to work out a mc Avenger theme character from 4e as just going Paladin Vengeance doesn't quite fit what I want.

I want to use the great sword, not wear armor and have a great AC while still having good spells.

The campaign will take us all the way to 20.

So I have been considering Cleric 6 / Paladin 10 / Warlock 3 (blade pact) / Monk 1.

This would give me caster slots about equal to 20th lvl Paladin so i can use them for smite, cleric would give me the x2 channeling to really make use of other channeling options i have, blade pact warlock for summoning my sword and eventually the Cha bonus to it's damage (and i love the idea of the pact blade as well as warlock mixed in rp wise), and then lastly Monk for Wis to AC.

So i would miss out on some of the improved divine smite and soul of vengeance but i think the domain, ac, and warlock adds should make up for it.

What do you guys think, does this sound viable all the way up to 20?

Would you consider a different class mix?

How would you rate this to just a straight lvl 20 Vengeance Paladin?

Thanks,

Nether

You can't get the Lifedrinker Invocatuon unless you're a 12th level Warlock. You could pick up the Armor of Shadows Invocation instead of the Monk level, that way you don't have to focus on Wis along with Str and Cha.

Maybe just a Warlock/Paladin?

Have you considered asking the DM if you can drop the Paladins armor proficiency to get an Unarmored Defense based off Cha? Call it Armor of Faith. Otherwise two levels of Barbarian could work, just reflavor Rage as a Holy Ferver. Same with Reckless attack.

... why not just go Oath of Vengeance but replace some of the features? such as maybe replace one feature wite with "Unarmored Defense" from the barb or monk, and then maybe grab what you want and just replace the OoV features, that way you're not having to spread-thin and MC into 4 different classes, it's alot less complicated.

Have you thought about doing mostly Vengeance Paladin with 1-3 levels in Barbarian? Could fluff your rage as battle-meditation, and the unarmored defense could be just what you are looking for.
