So, I have a freshly minted Barbarian who took the Path of the Totem Warrior kit.  I was wondering if you would share any ideas you have for alternate Totem Spirits - the ability you gain at 3rd level.  Neither the bear, eagle, or wolf tickle my fancy.

It depends on what you want your barbarian to be good at. Bear is tough, eagle is fast, wolf makes things easier for his friends.

Personally, I'm partial to dinosaurs. Fear and eating people tend to be their strong points. Or a Hercules beetle who's good at grapples and chokeslams.

Thanks for the reply Macv12.

I get the tough/fast/assist thing.  I'm going for tough, but I am open to other ideas / abilities, hence my posting for ideas.

Porcupine / Hedgehog -  Incoming melee attacks will regret that.  1d6 retaliatory piercing damage?

Cheetah - boost Move speed ( x 2 ? ) for the rest of the encounter.  1/day.

Lion - bonus to Intimidate (useless unless you import "Intimidate bloodied enemies into surrendering" rules from 4e.)

Rabbit - enemy must make WIS save or run away, as if Turned by a Paladin.

Chicken - enemy must make WIS save or be Abjured as if by a Paladin

Squirrel - immune to all AoOs when Disengaging, overrides any monster's specific ability to the contrary.

Owl - cannot be blinded, or low-light vision

Goose - immune to frightened condition, also blows Stealth attempts

Snake - poison enemy on to-hit roll of 18 - 19

Turtle - gain Damage Resistance 5, does not work while Raging

Mastodon / Mammoth / Elephant - become size Large for 1 minute

Hornet - one-shot short-range Fly speed

Sparrow - +2 to all rolls you make to duck / dodge / evade a physical attack (but not magic spells)

None of these are playtested, balanced, or even meant to be taken completely seriously.

Ooh, I like snake. Figure out some features that enable a sit back/POUNCE! fighting style. Something like, if you don't hit anything on your turn, you gain a big bonus to your next reaction attack, end enemies provoke reactions by ending their turns next to you. Or something, I don't know. Could be interesting.

Personally I have more fun shopping character choices or making up new ones than just picking them.
