Normally with a combat action, you are forced to use strength ( athletics) to initiate and the opponent gets to use str or dex (athletics or acroabtics) as an opposed roll. Which is fine and good, except why couldnt you initiate a combat action with dex (acrobatics)? can a dex fighter not disarm or shove? (he could shove using leverage rather than brute force, and i probably wouldnt allow acrobatics to grapple, but i think it should be cappable of the other actions.)
In addtion, the battle master can set his save DC for his manuevers with either strength or dex, which is awesome, but the saving throw is always strength based, which contradicts the combat actions choice of str or dex.
what do you think? if your battle master DC's are set by dex, then the opponent should have to make dex saving throws, instead of strength and if your manuever DC is set by strength, then you can use a strength saving throw. Or, should a battle master have the choice of which saving throw they wish to impose on the opponent? regardless of which stat they used to set the saving throw DC. In additon should dex be able to initiate comabt actions? Maybe they didnt want to give dex fighters too much to make strength a decent stat, im not sure.
thanks for hearing me out, im probably overlooking something, but still wanted to knwo what you think |
