For example, for a Radiant-centered character, I would recommend someone go for Devotion Paladin or Light Cleric. Primarily Paladin because Light Cleric is half fire.
Thunder would be a Tempest Cleric, right?
So what would you recommend for the other damage types? I was thinking Dragon Sorcerer for Fire. Beyond that, I'm sorta at a loss. |
| #2EggnogfoolJan 29, 2015 14:45:14 | Sorcerer for most of them really. |
| #31eejitJan 29, 2015 15:17:31 | I'd actually recommend elemental monk for fire. Fangs of the Fire Snake makes all your attacks in that round fire damage for the low cost of 1 ki. Force damage is obviously Warlock. Death Cleric for necrotic. Not really any class has great psychic damage. |
| #4YunruJan 29, 2015 15:34:07 | Sorcerer is great at a select few. No-one does Radiant like a Paladin. If it's Piercing, Slashing or Bludgeoning, Fighter's your guy. Force belongs to the Warlock 2. Other than that... |
| #5ConsumedRealityJan 29, 2015 15:51:14 | Dragon Origin fire sorcerer makes the most out of fire damage especially with the Scorching Ray cheese they can do. And 10 other fire spells to utilize if you want. |
| #6jaappletonJan 29, 2015 18:53:35 | What about Cold? I think Wizard gets more spells of the Cold variety, but Dragon Sorc gets the damage bonus regardless of spell school. |
| #7ConsumedRealityJan 29, 2015 19:15:52 | Most elementAL spells the Sorcerer will be better at if playing the corresponding dragon color and elemental adept, while the wizard gets one technically 2 additional cold spells with wall of ice and technically prismatic barrier. That does not mean his spells will be more powerful, with sorcerer metamagic available to enhance certain spells available. The wizard is generally better with the non elemental spells than a sorcerer is |

| #9QwertyAzertyJan 30, 2015 5:05:47 | Sorcerer only have 2 THUNDER spell (thunder wave, shatter) but got 4 LIGHTNING spell (shocking grasp, witch bolt, lightning bolt, chain lightning) including one TOTALLY useless one (witch bolt) The best use of your sorcererpoint with those spell would be empower or simply creating more spell slots. Sorcerer cannot be a THUNDER sorcerer, only lightning count.
compare to the cleric 2.5 THUNDER spell (thunderwave, shatter, hafl of destructive wave) and 1 LIGHTNING spell (call lightning) and Wrath of Storm which can cause either. you have 1 channel divinity (2 at higher level) use to maximize your thunder/lightning damage for 1 spell
I believe the sorcerer got better option then the cleric, even if the sorcerer option aren't great.
Fire is easyly the fire elemental dragon sorcerer.

| #10jaappletonJan 30, 2015 5:44:44 | Agreed about Fire Sorcerer dominating. But for Thunder, remember that the Tempest CD refreshes even on short rests, as opposed to Sorcerer Points for Metamagic. |
| #11ConsumedRealityJan 30, 2015 6:43:05 | Jaapleton, Sorcerers don't ever Get a bonus to Thunder spells, they are not an element like cold, fire, lightning, poison, and acid so no draconic bloodline bonuses, and no elemental affinity, now they can make a lightning sorcerer. |

| #13jaappletonJan 30, 2015 7:17:43 | Also, people often forget spells like Chromatic Orb, which are capable of being nearly any damage type. |
| #14ConsumedRealityJan 30, 2015 8:06:13 | Chromatic orb is very underwhelming so much so that after lvl 3 it doesn't hold Up very well. |
| #15jaappletonJan 30, 2015 8:21:29 | I know it doesn't scale well. But if you wanted to do this, all levels of play should be considered, not just levels 15-20. It's important to see how viable this is at all levels. |
| #16ConsumedRealityJan 30, 2015 8:58:17 | Im not saying at levels 15-20 I'm talking at low levels, the only time it is beneficial especially to sorcerers is when they choose say poison or acid as there draconic element, 3d8 for a level 1 spell is solid, but at level 1 there are better spells over all like burning hands 3d6 and half on a save, Level 3 Fireball 8d8 and aoe, level 5 cone of cold 8d8 and half on save. I don't have my phb handy but with spells that offer more spells choices for elemental damage have better alternatives. I can't recall the lightning spells otoh I know Shocking grasp is 1d8 and increases by 1d8 on 5th 11th an17th |
| #17MiladoonJan 30, 2015 9:04:05 | At ninth level, a spell caster that can cast animate objects can be the mid-level bludgeoning, piericing, and slashing guy. Those ten tiny creatures are nasty with AoO and all. dice+40 damage if they all connect. After you cast the spell and give the order to attack, you can use your action in the following rounds to melee some more or cast another spell. The damage potential lasts for a minute, It becomes less nova as you make levels and can cast it more often. All my casters will have it. |
