Fellow Bladelocks,

Would love to hear (read) about how your Bladelock approaches battle...i.e. what spells/invocations do you use, find most effective etc.

I have gotten a bit into a rut saving my spell slots to trigger Smites (Paladin/Warlock multiclass) which is very effective as hitting 40-55 damage when that crit comes up, but want to explore some other avenues.

I'll also be going Paladin/Warlock when I get past Level 11 (Improved Smite), but I plan on Chain instead of Blade. My character is way too cheerful for fiend pact... I took Oath of the Ancients and I'm basically playing a Surfer dude Paladunce

Since I took the Oath of the Ancients, I will be going Archfey. Since I can't resist having my own Toot-Toot* by my side, I'll be going Chain at Warlock Level 3.

I'm not sure what I will be doing with my Warlock spells... My Bonus Action is generally already used (Shield Master shove/Ensnaring Smite/Aura Healing) so casting Hex isn't going to be my first choice. I might end up doing the Devil's Sight/Darkness combo if I decide that my Archfey is going to be Mab, the Queen of Air and Darkness**. Mirror Image would be cool, I guess. I could also pick up Hellish Rebuke just to have something to do with my reaction when facing a single opponent and Sentinel isn't being triggered. Since we probably won't get past 15th Level and my three Warlock Levels will be 12, 13 and 14, it's not like it's going to effect my character long anyway.

*Pixie Character from the Dresden Files novels by Jim Butcher.

**Lady Mab is the true Queen of Air and Darkness. Since she is currently allowing someone else to hold her mantle on this world, I assume it's all part of some greater plan.

Slightly off topic SterlingRat, but i love your whole last paragraph. I've wanted to start designing a campaign in which you pull of a series of Heists for Mab ala Skin Game where in the end she obliterates Auriel and takes control of the entire Feywild... maybe one day when i don't have exams and college debt over my head. My Chainlock Pixie character is called "Fix" and for the sake of Shakespear "Robin Goodfellow" is the playful sassy Pseudodragon familiar.

Some of the more obvious combos is "Darkness + Devil's Sight", all your attacks have Advantage and your enemies have Disadvantage. Which right in of itself being able to do is amazing.

Well it all depends what you wanna do... More melee?, more caster?, full hybrid?

I wanted to stay mostly pure, and add melee, so i did this: warlock (8th level now), fiend patron, pack of blade. with  alongsword (i use it 2handed)

So 8th level caster, spells: armor of Agathis, burning hand, hex, cloud of daggers, mirror image, scorching ray, fireball, vampiric touch, and fireshield.

Invocations: agonizing blast, devil's sight, fiendish vigor, thirsting blade, thirsting blade.

My strategy is simple, buff up with armor of agathis, fiendish vigor, than go into melee. Use temporary hit point as buffer and mirror image if hard press. So far it's fun and tougher than i expected.

Mulclassing paladin or fighter would give more melee, i like eldricth knigt cause it add spells (shield is useful) and caster level...

I am playing a Warlock 3 right now, Fiendish Bladelock.  Just got Pactblade, and it has been awesome, especially since we play with the alternative cleave rules in he DMG.  He uses a two-handed sword, and with Hex active deals 3d6+4 (18 str), several swings with the pactblade have killed multiple enemies.  With Dark Ones Blessing (temp HP) he can be super tanky, and can re-up temps with Fiendish Vigor between encounters if necessary and Armor Of Agathys if needed.  Other wise Agonizing Eldritch Blast before melee is engaged if possible.

Best moment so far, was when he lost his temper.  Got bottle necked in a hallway that entered a room with some cultists and a priestess.  The priestess had her minions blocking the way, and managed to hit  with a spell for 20 damage, blasting through all temps and well into real hit point range, not something he was happy about.  Without thinking about it I teleported behind her and cleaved into her, making her lose concentration on her spell, which allowed my allies to push through without fear and the moon druid mauled the priestess to death before I could take damage from recasting her spell.

Fire Shield and the frost version are also decent and do not require concentration. Gaining stoneskin via an ally is nasty with armor of agathys.

i would keep at least 1 AoE spell, then take utility spells.

I just made 6th in AL play. All warlock.

I took polearm master and medium armor.

I keep one fireball just incase plus hex.

Stay behind the fighter and bash away. It's worked well having the opportunity attack and extra damage.

there have only been a few times when I've exceeded my bonus actions. i.e. moving the hex and not getting the extra attack...but overall, 4 attacks in a round at level 5 is pretty brutal on single targets and having the AoE bonus is tremendous. The extra temps keep my head above water.

Lastly keeping darkness and fiend sight with reach can be pretty amazing.

I adore the Fiend Pact for the Blade Lock.    Some spells I favor -

Eldritch Blast - ranged option + Warcaster reactions

Hex - damage boost

Armor of Agathys - damage when you get hit.

Hellish Rebuke - combine with Aggy Armor for some nice reprisal damage

Flame Shield - same theme so far

Command - sometimes, you just need to make people do silly things.   Command them to run away, use reaction to smack them, set things up for another turn or fellow PCs to smack them.

Fireball - othertimes, you need an AoE attack.  This is the best of the options that the fiend warlock gets.

Blindness/Deafness - A good control spell for up to four critters.

Darkness - Combine with Devil's Sight for fun.  Especially if drow for no sunlight penalty.

Banishment - A good battlefield control spell with a non-WIS save

Hold Person/Monster - very powerful if it works

Mirror Image - non-Concentration defensive spell

The Mystic Arcana aren't exactly on my favorite list for a hexblade.   I use True Seeing, Finger of Death, Power Word Stun, and Foresight.

If you go Fey, take Blink, Greater Invisibility for some stealthy action.  Faerie Fire is an awesome, awesome spell, and I actually do like Sleep.   Think like a Rogue, not a Fighter.

For the GOO, I really don't have any additional suggestions.   I personally don't think that a GOO bladelock works well.
