| #1Jin_RaOct 17, 2014 17:58:41 | I'm making a Bladelock for my first 5e character and I'm planing to take a either 3 lvl dip into fighter or a 15 lvl swim...
1) Is one vastly superior than another?
2) What would be the better option mechanicaly? Battle Master for the manuevers or Champion for the crit increases?
If I go Battle Master I plan to go polearm (mastery/sentinel/war caster) and if I go Champoin the plan is to go great sword (mastery/war caster). |

2: Crit's don't add too much untill you get 3 or 4 attacks or are rolling extra dice. Warlocks +Cha to damage isn't affected at all. Battlemaster on the other hand is great for a 3 level dip, but loses steam as you level, since it's not muliplied by multi-attack, and manuvers become less valuble. |

You can use them separately to get a bonus action attack, a special type of OA with your spells, a special type of OA with your polearm, advantage on concentration saving throws, and ignore S components. However, you cannot combine the two special OAs because one requires a polearm attack and the other requires a spell attack (no shooting people in the face with 4 eldritch blasts when they close on you as an OA).
I'd probably recommend Eldritch Knight instead of multiclass Fighter/Warlock unless you're attempting to accomplish something very specific. It gives you lots of attacks, action surge, and extra ability score increases or feats (probably pretty important for a hybrid warrior-caster).
That being said, you could also multi-class as an Eldritch Knight and Warlock. This would temper the loss of Warlock spellcasting a bit by granting you EK spells and spell slots. Your EK spells can be cast using your Pact Magic slots, and vice versa. Additionally, if you took EK to higher levels, you gain the ability to cast spells and attack as a bonus action and the ability to impose disadvantage on saving throws to your spells. |

Race: Human Varient (startign feat Polearm Mastery)
Level 1 Fighter (1): Defense might be better than Great Weapon Fighter since you wil be useing a polearm. (gives you heavy armor and proficency in con save) Level 2 Warlock (1): Infernal patron, 1st level spells for Hex, armor of agathys Level 3 Warlock (2): Level 4 Fighter (2): Level 5 Warlocl (3): Blade pack, retrain one of your invocations into Thirstign Blade for a second attack. Level 6 Fighter (3): I would take Battlemaster for Reposte and Menacing Attack Level 7 Fighter (4): +2 Strength Level 8 Fighter (5) Level 9 Warlock (4): +2 Strength, retrain Thristing Blade into another Invocation. Level 10 Fighter (6): Sentinel Level 11 Fighter (7): 5 superiority dice Level 12 Fighter (8): +2 Charima Level 13 Fighter (9): Level 14 Fighter (10): Level 15 Fighter (11): 3rd attack Level 16 Warlock (5): Invocation - Lifedrinker, 3rd level spells (hex last 8 hours) Level 17 Warlock (6): Level 18 Warlock (7): 4th level spells for Fire Sheild Level 19 Warlock (8): +2 Charisma Level 20 Fighter (12): +2 Charima or Warolck (9) for 5th levle spells (24 hour duration hex)
Thi build maximizes your melee dps utilizing your few spells to help boost your damage with hex and armor of agthys swithcing out to fire sheild and hex once you can cast it. |
