| #1FrogReaverFeb 27, 2015 12:35:04 | The question this thread will explore is how strong is it to be able to cast spells like bless and haste as bonus actions. It takes 3 levels in sorceror to get the ability to cast bonus action buff spells.
Bonus action bless? Bonus action haste? Any other buff spells that need considered?
Bonus action Haste is easy to consider. It gives +2AC and an extra attack to replace the bonus action attack you just gave up. In total it should give +2 AC per turn and about 3 extra attacks by the end of the encounter. (You gave up nothing but a spell slot and 2 sorcery points to do this, besides what you could have gained by staying in your class).
Bonus action bless? This a bit harder to consider. It gives 1d4 extra attack rolls and savings throws to you and 2 allies. You likely gave up 1 bonus action attack for this.
For a paladin? A ranger? A fighter? Anything else? |
| #2melloredFeb 27, 2015 13:15:19 | Paladin: They have the same stats, and can make good use of extra smite slots. Ranger: They already have a solid bonus action buffs (hunter's quarry, swift quiver). Fighter: They don't have any innate buffs, though they have no bonus action issue. Even more multi-classing means more MAD and loss of levels.
But mostly, you might as well go rogue for +2d6 damage, no slot required. |

| #7FrogReaverFeb 27, 2015 21:18:21 | Okay, I'm glad we are all agreed it's doable. So how strong is this? |
| #8melloredFeb 28, 2015 6:52:23 | If we assume 3 Similar bowmen (rotating who casts bless, so there are enough slots) doing 10 damage, with 3 Attacks, it adds 11.25. |

| #10FrogReaverFeb 28, 2015 11:12:54 | But let's also examine this with sharpshooter. 35% chance to hit and 20 damage per hit. Bless will add 2.5 damage per attack. If we assume 9 attacks that is 22.5 damage. That's much more than the average 7 damage that getting our 4th attack with a fighter build could do. It's also sooner. |
