| #1CFKSep 08, 2015 3:51:55 | - For our new adventure (PotA) I had an idea for a new character. The concept I was thinking about is a roleplay heavy one with the combat skills build around it. So my first goal is to make a great RP character first, less heavy focussed on combat second.
So lets introduce my new charcter: Lord Teppic of the house of Pennfire. A man who left his royal family to become a guard at Candlekeep after he found out that he didn't have a single arcane skill during his studies there. Offcourse, being a noble, he rose to the rank of Major right away! With his trusted light crossbow he has left his day job to go and adventure!
Whenever he enters a place like a bar or inn, he makes sure that all can see him and hear him. He shouts his name many of times and is one of those "Everybody likes me" guys that no-one really likes. Talks to everyone and tries to MAKE everyone like him...
But here is the truth...
"Lord Teppic" is actually a rogue named Marc with the Charletan background. He lets everyone thinks he's a DEX based fighter with a Noble background. Flashing his signet ring and scroll of pedigree on just about everyone to amplify his claim.
Having all his power invested on his DEX, WIS and CHA the half elf seemed best. But he can't have anyone knowing that, so he cut off his spock ears and wears his long blond hair over the scars. With his STR and INT score the lowest (8) he simply laughs this fact away and tries to influance others into doing the heavy lifting. His goal is to become rich. Richer that the people he steals from! So his Slight of hand and Deception skills are maxed (+8 on lvl1: +3 dex doubled with rogue feature , +2 prof bonus) he is surely skilled in both. His Teppic disguise is there to make sure he doesn't gets be a suspect when SHTF! While Teppic presents himself as a LG character, almost paladin like, Marc is more CN... Trying to rob others while acting drunk, shouting "I've must entered the wrong door" when caught, as player saying "Let's see if I can find my own room by rolling this D20, damn I failed!".
Combat is still tricky. His DEX build made sure he knows what to do with a crossbow and double wielding shortswords, and having an normal AC. On higher levels I'm afraid that his lack of good armour will stand out, but i'll cross that path when I get there!
Only thing i'm struggling with, is the other players. I'd like to keep them in the dark as long as possible to prevent the meta-thinking. My character sheet is actually coded! all skills are written down in Elvish so they won't get the right one at first glance. I have played with the idea of having 2 character sheets, one for Teppic and 1 for Marc... All questions like "What's your AC" that are asked out of character are answered with a good "Why don't you ask that to my character, in game?".
So, what do you all think? Any thoughts on getting the upper hand on the lies? O, and in the words of Marc: "I don't lie! I manipulate the thruth to fit my goals!" |
