Building an Eldritch Hunter

I need help figuring out the right class/class combo for this character.

Here's the fluff:

Setting: the multiverse has been torn assunder, creating rifts in the peaceful realm of The Vale. Abberations, celestials, fiends, and monsters have poured into The Vale, along with a goblinoid horde who savagely pillages towns and villages, having no home of their own in the Vale. (This happened before, allowing fey, both light and dark, into The Vale, but they have been mostly suppressed.)

Character: The Woodsong Elves have sealed off the forested borders, hunting any who enter. Their woods were hit the hardest by the abberations and monsters that poured through, and a new generation of ranger has emerged: the Eldritch Hunter. Armed with spell, bow, and sword, these masters of the woodland realms hunt and kill the arcane horrors that reside in the Woodsong Forest.

I'm also thinking that some (or all) of the Eldritch Hunters swear allegiance to fey elders to be granted power (this opens up Paladin and Warlock as possible multiclass options).

How I want the character to play is pretty similar to how we see Legolas or Aragorn in the LotR movies, but with a more "Arcane Archer" feel. (I really wish the Paladin's smite spells worked on Ranged weapons, as I'd have it all right there.) At any rate, he uses weapons primarily (both melee and ranged), with spells for enhancement and utility.

Any advice on building this woodsy hunter of eldritch forces, who uses arcane magic to fight fire with fire against arcane enemies?

What I was initially thinking was Ranger/Warlock.

Ranger for Favored Enemy, and to hit the fluff regarding the elven master of the woodlands. Then multiclass to a Chain Feylock to gain Eldritch Sight (Detect Magic at will is pretty good for this concept).

I was also thinking a few levels as a Conjuration Wizard might work well for him, too. But then, there's a lot of summoning in the Ranger levels, too.

Although, Nature Cleric has the Divine Strike ability, which is pretty much what I'm looking for there...

I love the concept, but the only hitch that has kept me from going Paladin was that smite spells (and Divine Smite class feature) are all melee attacks only. I wanted this character to primarily fight with a bow.

Flavor Eldritch Blast as a bow. A bow made of magical force that springs from the ends of a rod you're holding. Now you got your Arcane Archer flavor. 2 level and you've got your +modifier to damage as well as other goodies you can tack on. Now flavor any other spell as different arrows shooting from said bow.

I really like that idea!

He doesn't even need a real bow. It could be flavored that an energy bow springs into his hand (though I like a real bow better). I suppose the table could treat the need for a bow to be a flaw (granting inspiration when he doesn't have one, so no casting), and using the bow as an Arcane Focus.

The only downside there is that he won't get to use a real bow when it comes to magic items. But I guess that could be offset by changing the physical structure of a wand or staff into a bow, but granting the magical properties.

It's not as clean as I'd like, but it's a great work around until something more solid comes out.

There's some ambiguity on whether you could bond a magical bow as your pact weapon.  Your DM may allow that.

I would go Chain for the Sprite anyway.
