#1 Gruff_Ironfist Sep 06, 2014 14:25:11	Imagine a moon druid casting call lightning (in his normal form), then wildshaping into whatever (while maintaining concentration), and standing near foes while in his wildshape. Hostile creature's movement then provokes an opportunity attack, and War Caster lets you use your reaction to cast a spell at the foe instead of making the opportunity attack.   Sure, the feat's intent seems centered around casting a new spell (given the reference to cast, and casting time of 1 action), rather than activating an already-cast-and-now-concentrating spell, but...   Call Lightning says, after the intial casting, you can use your "action" on each of your turns to "call down" more lightning. Unless I'm missing something, you don't need components after the initial casting (meaning you could call it down while in wildshape).   I'm sure RAW disallow it.   That aside, I'm inclinded to allow it in our game. You gave up the spell slot resource, your concentration can be disrupted and the spell is gone, it requires good timing to set this up, and (at least at 5th level) the 3d10 damage doesn't seem out of wack compared to beast's normal melee damage (though the half damage on successful save is a nice touch).   Combine this will Sentinel feat, and you could zap foes trying to Disengage from your reach too (and drop their speed to 0, as you move next to them on your next turn to set up the same circumstances).   Plus it's just cool zapping foes.   Any thoughts?
#2 Undrhil Sep 06, 2014 14:40:35	It wouldn't trigger Sentinel, since you are casting a spell instead of taking an opportunity attack.  So, it wouldn't reduce their speed to 0.   Otherwise, the spell says you can use your action to call down lightning.  Not your reaction or at any time.  Therefore, it wouldn't work for War Caster.  Also, War Caster specifically says that you cast a spell, which you cannot do in wild shape anyway.
#3 2Chlorobutanal Sep 06, 2014 15:57:12	I think it's a bit removed from the literal rules for several reasons (call lightning is not a single target spell; the "call a lightning bolt" action is not a spell itself; Sentinel only works on opportunity attacks, and the lightning bolts are neither attacks nor opportunity attacks), but it does seem rather cool if you want to allow it.
