#1 wolfman36 Jun 15, 2015 11:43:11	I am about to dm a campaign in 5e and one of my pcs wants to play a changeling. He believes that the polymorph ability will allow him to use natural weapons such as bite and claw attacks. Also wondering about the use of breath weapons. He also believes it will grant him temporary hp as a druid's wildshape does.
#2 Tempest_Stormwind Jun 15, 2015 12:13:56	No, it won't. Polymorphing doesn't change any stats it doesn't explicitly say it changes (usually just size and speed). Changelings can also only assume humanoid forms.
#3 mellored Jun 15, 2015 12:20:06	Seems like it would make a good changling feat.   Adaptive Form: Preerquisit Changling. *When you change to a different race, you gain the features of that race.  If you use a feature that requires a rest, you cannot use any other races feature that requires a rest. *You can use a bonus action to gain claws.  Your unarmed strike deals 1d4 slashing damage. *You can use an action to deform your body, letting you fit though openings 2' or smaller, or reach things upto 15' away.  You cannot attack or cast spells in this form.

#6 Clutchbone Jun 15, 2015 12:50:50	Yeah, a Changeling can assume the shape, but not the actual properties; i.e. claws won't be hard/sharp enough, jaws won't be strong enough, doesn't make the fire-spitting organs inside, etc.   Hmm, maybe I'm being influenced by older editions. The article does say "polymorph", and it doesn't set any limits (besides medium humanoid) like disguise self, or even polymorph, does. As written, yeah I think a changeling gains the natural properties of the new form, but I'd totally houserule it not to.

#8 poocaster Jun 15, 2015 13:00:49	Clutchborn I don't think you would need to nerf that down because it says you can not use any of your spells or abilities while in another form and most natural weapons are going to be significantly weaker than class abilities that being said polymorph also states you uses the creature you turn into's hp like temporary hp so they could use that as a never-ending pool of hp.
