#1 Ilse Mar 16, 2015 15:56:37	Hi guys, Not sure if this question has been asked before, but I am a bit uncertain about the interpretation of the Changeling Racial power published in the Eberron Unearthed Arcana: Shapechanger. As an action, you can polymorph into any humanoid of your size that you have seen, or back into your true form. However, your equipment does not change with you. If you die, you revert to your natural appearance.   The entry in the MM for the Doppleganger is actually more precise: Shapechanger. The doppelganger can use its action to polymorph into a Small or Medium humanoid it has seen, or back into its true form. Its statistics, other than its size, are the same in each form . Any equipment it is wearing or carrying isn't transformed. It reverts to its true form if it dies.   Is that the one that should be used for the Changeling, at least as a basis (I should point out at this stage that a changeling’s polymorph is pretty useless as you can’t even imitate racial abilities of your form, for example an elf without darkvision wouldn’t be very effective as a disguise).   In any case, it’s probably better than the polymorph spell, which is not really useful, as I would  assume that you are (as per the spell) taking on all aspects of the creature, including racial abilities. The target’s game statistics, including mental ability scores, are replaced by the statistics of the chosen beast. It retains its alignment and personality.   What about racial abilities ? What about class abilities ? Do you get the ones of the new form ? Do you keep yours ?   Also: The creature is limited in the actions it can perform by the nature of its new form, and it can’t speak, cast spells, or take any other action that requires hands or speech.   This is because the polymorph spell is limited to beasts, which is not the same thing at all as for changelings. The above would make it really useless.   Ideas ?
#2 mellored Mar 16, 2015 16:03:06	Nothing say's you change statistics, so it's just a disguse.  it would be pretty OP if you could take all the other races abilities. Also changling can't polymorph into small, something a doppleganer can do.   Polymoph spell is limited to beast.
#3 Ilse Mar 16, 2015 17:47:21	Actually, it's not a disguise, which is mainly exteral. This is totally internal and does not change the clothing. For example, there are no checks as for the disguise kit or the disguise self spell. It is real, and it s written "polymorph", For me, it is even stronger than alter self, which just changes the apparence (although the game impact is really easy to take into account). This s polymorph, you really change into another shape, and back again. Now, you are right in a sense, getting the abilities as per the spell would be both quite powerful but also quite limitating.   Any other advice ?
#4 cowleymen Mar 17, 2015 4:52:01	your taking the word polymorph in the racial power to seriously. Chnagelings powers is not less percise, its different then doppleganger. Changelings dont take on the racial powers of the indivdial they change into becuase they are not replicating any version of a "polymorph" spell, but is just replicating the disguise version of alter self
