Hello I am brand new to Do&Do but not Tabletop Rugs as a whole. Creating my first character I'm working off a concept in character design I both want to stay true to and make effective. At its roots I want to make a potent melee character who wears little to no armor and weilds a short or long sword and incapable of slinging a few thematic spells. For those who have read the Stormlight Archive I am ring to emulate Seth, Assassin in White.

To achieve this I've started Warlock and intend to take pact of the blade to get a magic bound weapon. From there I intend to multiplies likely into Barbarian or Monk; perhaps Rogue or other classes have

merit, again I am new. Basically I'd like to know opinions, what would make for a good combo with a level 3 or 5 blade Warlock intending to go melee?

If you are brand new to D&D, I would't recommend planning to multiclass. Better to get the feel of the full potential of each class in the rules than trying to find just the "right" combination of class abilities.

That said, I would think that fighter, specializing to eldritch knight, is what you are looking for. You won't have spells your first two levels, but otherwise it seems to give you just what you want. Warlocks, even pact of the blade, aren't melee-heavy in the way that fighters (obviously) are, but rather spellcasters with some combat capability.

I absolutely did mean capable. Typed out that post on my new shiny Tablet so I'm now going to go over my first post, touch it up and add some missed meaning.

Right now the character is a level 3 Warlock after one session. It was very much an intro and demo session for us so the DM has stated he doesn't mind me making some sweeping changes now that we know how things flow. I'd prefer to keep Warlock just to not be that guy who does a 180 for session two but wont discount it to better match what I am striving for.

In terms of 'thematic spells' I am looking for the magic within the Stormlight Archive, like all of Sanderson's works tends to be quite different than your more traditional fantasy. Therefore I need to do some loose translating on what he might be capable of. At its roots he can manipulate gravitation and adhesion. So I am thinking Bind Creature, Spider Climb and the like, other suggestions more than welcome. Reverse Gravity is a pretty high level spell so it seems off the table. Other possibilities in bending the concept I feel could be storm based magic, pushes, pulls, gusts of wind, ect. Finally anything that enhances his weapon to make it do more damage would fit very well as Szeth's sword, a Shardblade ore Honourblade, is certainly very magical.

Right now the best possibilities seem to be Monk and Barbarian to multiclass with the existing Warlock. I know I was advised maybe I should not multiclass but one this needs to be a melee centric character and two I do have vast experience with other games complexity does not scare me away. Monk and Barb both seem most promising because Szeth will not be wearing armour.
