| #1DurwanAug 18, 2014 14:25:43 | So im new to magic in Dnd and have chosen a cleric. But I suddenly face the problems while casting area effects like, 15 foot square, sylinder, cone etc I might hit and even kill a party member. Does anyone have a tips on how to deal with this exept running ahead like a mad man? My partymembers are melee types, and its hard to not hit em... ;) |

coordinated actions were super-important in 4e, but appear to remain relevant at least in 5e.

as said before tehmm your team to coordinate and position themself so you can cast your spell safely, if they don'T burn them one or twice, then they will earn and coordinate |

Some aren't. |

Make sure your allies know what you can do so they can plan accordingly and consider having other options when a blast won't work.
Then again, running ahead like a mad man is an option in certain circumstances. As a cleric, you have access to medium (or heavy armorn depending on domain) and shields, as well as having a d8 hit die. Charging in to cast a nuke is not necessarily a bad idea when properly supported.
Edit: Also note that, unless you are going to kill by massive damage, you likely have a few rounds to stabilize a downed party member. While I do not suggest blasting your allies, when you can avoid it, it is, on rare occasions, strategically sound (though you better ask before you nuke and don't go through with it if your ally says no). |

And some, like spirit guardians, won't hurt your friends. |
