| #1SorxoresSep 18, 2014 7:07:48 | At my knowledge, there is many controversial rules at the moment in 5e that player are waiting for WotC to clarify and I was thinking we could put them all here.
If someone find a clear and OFFICIAL ruling (not developper twitter please) then please post it here and I'll edit this post to put the OFFICIAL ruling. I will also update the post with more controversial ruling that you find.
Please refrain from arguing the rules, simply put the rule, and the 2 (or 3) side. also do not quote the PHB, since there is already 10 thread for most of those where members quote the PHB, than an other member quote a different part of the PHB or use a different interpretation of the same quote to proof the opposite. Also refrain from houseruling since they do not help in Adventure League and are higly personal to your table. For example:
Can you twin spell like magic missile, scorchiing ray, Eldritch blast (lvl 5+)? - Each ray/missile/beam target a single target, so yes -If all rays/missiles/beams target the same target then yes - Never because you have the option to target multiple target.
Does a Fire dragon sorcerer with elemental affinity add his Cha on each ray of Scorching ray? - Only once per target - yes on each ray no matter of the targets - only 1 ray no matter of the targets
Does warlock agonizing blast add Cha on each Eldritch blast beam? -yes -no -only once per target
Does Evocation Wizard add his Intellect to Evocation each beam/ray/missile from evocation spell? -yes -no -only once per target
Does a Hex add 1d6 damage on each beam/ray/missile spell? -not on Magic missile since it's not an attack, but yes on scorchiing ray and eldritch blast -yes for all -yes but only once per target
Does Life Domain power add bonus healing to all Goodberries from a single cast? -Yes to all berries -Just to a Single Berry chosen by the caster. -Just One bonus healing berry per person per casting of Goodberry.
If you are unseen and cast a multiple attack spell (like scorching ray) or have multiple attack with a single action (fighter lvl 5+) do you get advantage on every rays?? -yes but only for those attack made simultaneously who do not allow to move or change target between attacks(like scorching ray) compare to the fighter extra attack who can move between attacks and change target after seeing teh effect of the first attack -yes for all -no never just the first weapon swing and only one of the scorching ray/eldritch blast beams
Can you cast a quicken cantrip then a action spell? or must you cast the action spell first, then the quicken cantrip?
what does trap soul does? (in the same idea, what about that paladin spell that changed name between the spell list and the spell description?
How does unarmed defense(barbarian or monk) stack with Mage armor, dragon sorcerer and Bracer of defense (for HOTDQ)? -they don't stack at all -you choose only 1 formula : 10+dex+con/Wis OR 13+dex -you add +3 on anything (as long that you are unarmored)
Does the Natural Armor from Animals (wild shape, etc) stack with monk, barbarian, or Dragon Sorc base AC or shield spell? -Yes they stack, -No Natural Armor is a Base AC.
GWF rerolls apply to Smite and other add-on dice, yes or no?
Does the Rogue have to declare his Cunning Action intent before applying it? It will often occur that a Rogue intends to attack Target A, then use Disengage if Target A is still breathing or Dash/Hide if Target A reacts to the Rogue's attack by leaving this mortal coil. Strictly speaking, Disengage needs to be declared before the action (specifically the move portion), while Dash or Hide would be declared afterward. Is it viable to just declare "Cunning Action!" at the start of the turn and leave all options open depending on how the attack plays out?
When a sorcerer use his Sorcerer point to CREATE a new spell slot, then do a long rest, he regain his EXPENDED spell slots so do he increase his spell slot permanently?
Does Sharpshooter work on any attack made with a ranged weapon or just ranged attacks. i.e. do thrown weapons count as being ranged weapons for this purpose and if you use a thrown weapon with a melee attack, does that work? |

| #5Rancid_RogueSep 18, 2014 7:46:06 | Add: Dragon Queen version of Bracers of Defense +3. For reals?
Add: GWF rerolls apply to Smite and other add-on dice, yes or no?
Add: Does the Rogue have to declare his Cunning Action intent before applying it? It will often occur that a Rogue intends to attack Target A, then use Disengage if Target A is still breathing or Dash/Hide if Target A reacts to the Rogue's attack by leaving this mortal coil. Change: The unseen attacker question to be more general. In a multipart Attack action benefitting from being hidden, does every attack enjoy the advantage?

| #8Devils-AdvocateSep 18, 2014 11:55:02 | So let me get this straight... You don't count developer tweets as an official source. You don't want sourses quoted from the players handbook. Where exactly do you expect these official answers to come from? The book and the developers' comments are literally the only official sources we have. |

Add: SLAP who ever made the crafting rules. 300 Days to craft platemail? WTF
That is all. |
| #13ChakravantSep 18, 2014 20:31:30 | There is an official FAQ planned. Considering Mearls has already retracted one of his previous adjudications (he changed his mind on Hex), it seems that all tweets/posts/convention rulings are guidelines, and only the eventual official FAQ will provide the fully thought out responses to our issues. |

| #17PsikerlordSep 19, 2014 0:56:03 | You already have all the answers you need, OP.
Consult your table about what they think each ruling shoud be. If folks agree, awesome, there's your ruling! If not, it's the DM's call. You dont need dev tweets, or FAQ. Dev input might be worth considering, of course, they might on occasion give a helpful insight into why they think the ruling should go one way or another.
But ultimately the most relevant views are those of your table - they're the guys who are gonna play by those rulings. No-one else. |

| #24MykeSchultzSep 19, 2014 21:11:57 | For AL, organized play, I certainly don't like the idea of rules by consensus, i.e., mob rule. In my experience, half the times, half the people at the table are usually knuckleheads (perhaps even me). So I'm just supposed to drive 100 miles away to play at FLGS B. because FLGS A. voted that is "dumb is fun!" The maturity level of the lowest common denemenator? To be frank, I wish dnd 5ed didn't take the pholosophy that, "all rules are arbitrary." Or even making the DM into God was a bad idea imo (especially, since, for the past 30 years, I have never encountered a dm who didn't have a huge dm ego, a Gary Gygax-complex, just dying to impose his or her subjectivity/bias onto the game. At least 4ed controlled for this, eliminating "the dm is always right."). What's wrong with having solid rules? Plenty of games, take sports for instance, have codified rules, and they're tons of fun. I can already see how this "all rules are arbitrary" idea is wreaking utter havoc and confusion on this board (and across the interwebs). But fine, whatever. Do whatever your little heart desires in your home games. But organized play should not be reduced to "all rules are arbitrary" and "mob rule." Or the dm's ego. Rather, it should be objective (codified rules) imo <--It baffles me that such a thing seems to be so unpopular. But the "mob rules," I guess. |
