| #1PTWildBillNov 25, 2014 10:09:06 | I see in the PH the cost of a variety of spell casting services. My question is, does the cost shown on the chart include the price of the material components if any? Specifically the Identify spell. I can cast Identify myself, but it costs me a 100 gp pearl and an owl feather. The spell casting services chart shows the cost of the spell as 20 gp. So is the price 20 gp plus the 100 gp pearl?? If it's only the 20 gp why would I want to spend the extra 80 gp. Is it only for the convenience of having it available in the middle of a dungeon? Thanks in advance for help. |

So it's probably just 20. |

Why? Because the caster had to pay the upfront cost, and needs to be recouped somehow!
But since it's not consumed, half-price could be fine. Or even rounding down to an even 50gp. But I'm neither in your world or in your campaign. So I have no idea how much 20-120gp is for PCs! If they have a ton of money, feel free to charge 120. What are they gonna do, NOT get someone to cast identify on the magic items? |

Cheap focus can sub for cheap M components.
Expensive M components that aren't consumed are themselves a minigame, involving ~Thievery. And way far afield, what kind of financial plan is involved "leasing" the expensive M component for the length of time you need it? We need to have our security people along with you.
