Sorry I didn't make this clear. This spell is for an abjuror. I don't have accses to silence.
The Idea is to get a look at the spell list, then be able to properly weigh the options for my counter spells. Do you think the spell is balenced? |
| #4melloredMar 10, 2015 8:58:06 | Nothing about being an abjuror stops you from casting silence.
But yes. I don't see any paticular issue with it. |
| #5Den12Mar 10, 2015 9:03:16 | thanks.
PS is silence on the wizards spell list? |
| #6SterlingRatMar 10, 2015 9:26:14 | The balance looks right, but it sounds more like a divination thing to me. Not that I mind it being Abjuration... the only second level spell we had was Arcane Lock and there's no point in up-casting any of the 1st level spells. That made our 2nd level slots practically unusable for recharging our THP Shield.
Although the abjuration part is nice... Maybe remove the "knowing prepared spells" part of the effect and adding a damage factor?
You send a disruptive ripple through the fabric of the Weave in an attempt to disrupt your opponent's connection to it. Your target makes a saving throw with their spellcasting attribute. On a failed save, they take 1d8 damage and lose a first level spell slot. On a successful save, they take no damage but still lose the spell slot. If cast with a higher level spell slot, increase the damage by 1d8 and the spell slot disrupted by 1 for each level higher than 2nd.
Less "Mind Twist" more "Hypnotic Spectre" |

Thanks for the input everyone.
I like the idea of the mind twist. perhaps knowing the spell slots and not the prepaired spells would help balence it? |
| #9slumgumMar 11, 2015 3:26:44 | This spell doesn't exactly make sense for divine casters or warlocks who tend to draw their power from an external source rather than an innate knowledge of the spell (arguably for sorcerers too). It seems like it would be better as an improved counterspell that also makes a zone where the spell cannot be cast rather than removing the creature's ability to cast the spell (though that detracts from your Thoughtseize flavor). |
