Defense or Protection

I'm playing a Half-elf Paladin, dex based, so going with Studded leather armor with shield (going oath of vengence at lvl 3).  My AC is 17 now with my +3 dex bonus.  Deciding which Fighting style to take at second level; defense for the extra +1 AC, or Protection to help guard my companions.  We have two casters (wizard, warlock), rogue (going arcane trickster), and a Barbarian (going with Bear totem).  I like the idea of Protection, but worried how much utility it will get; also if at 4th level I take the Sentinel Feat to get more control of the battlefield and can use that reaction to attack.

Anyway, thought I'd throw it out there to all of you as I've read tons of great ideas and opinions on these forums.  Thanks.

Go with Defense. Protection is just bad. If you intend to get the Sentinel Feat, then Protection is even worse. If the barbarian takes Sentinel instead - then Protection will be somewhat viable if situational.

Neither. Take Dueling.
