Dex / Cha Halfling build?

I'm currently playing the Halfling Rogue in the starter module and we will shortly move onto Dragon Queen.

The DM has been giving me very limited opportunities to hide, and I'm overall getting bored with the "hide behind comrade and shoot thru them" mechanic.

My character was sort of energy drained / semi-killed by a Wraith and then passed through a magical forge, so I was thinking of using this as a "story moment" to rebuild the character levels on a new chasis, but with the same race and stats.  E.g. "after a brush with death he's taken another path."

Anyway, I know you dont care much about the backstory, but I'd like to still have a damage-dealing skill monkey.

I was thinking of some combination of Bard / Warlock and maybe Ranger.

I loaned out my PHB to another player, and so can't provide a specific build, but I think Warlock is decent for getting the pact blade + hex.  I'd use two short swords.  Then also get Ranger 3 to get stat damage on second weapon (two handed style) and to get the 3rd level ability to add d8 per attack.

So my base would be:

d6 sword + 4 dex + d6 hex +d8 (ranger level 3 ability)

I'd start with two attacks and get Extra attack from one of the classes

I'm looking for a build which will work thru level 20.  I like the Bard's skill monkeying and full spell progression, so have been thinking about using that as the primary class over time.

thanks!

The 1d8 from Ranger only applies if the target has already taken damage. So your "base" won't be that, but once the target is damaged it will. Considering that Hunter's Mark works the same as Hex for damage, do you really need to go Warlock? Ranger/Rogue or Ranger/Bard will give you the skills you want with plenty of damage pumped out. Depending on what level you can start at I would take Range to 4, or 5 for Extra Attack, then go from there.

Just a thought, but depending on  your party makeup ranger/rogue could be deadly.  Get the two weapon ranger style and the colossus slayer d8, and if you have someone who can consistently help you get advantage add sneak attack every round that you hit at least once as well.  Substitute Hunter's Mark for hex so you're not losing that damage.  Possibly even look at Assassin rogue if you can consistently make use of its special abilities.  For icing, get poisoner's kit profiency and poison both swords.
