Hello All,

Guide writing for 3.5e has gotten slugishly slow, partly due to the fact that real life has cought up to me; the other thing that played its part for me to semi-abandon the 3.5e guides was, well, nothing seemed to be new - there was so much work and theorycrafting done, no idea seemed really fresh or out of the ordinary.

Then came 5e, so I had something new to think about, but I wanted to wait a bit until I had some real experience before I wrote anything. So, I'm playing a cleric in the weekly d&d game and thought that the class has a lot of variety and it's a good place for someone to start, so I decided that, since it's now the class that I probably know (and have read in detail) the most about, it's a good place to start.

You can view the guide here -> http://dictummortuum.droppages.com/5e/cleric

The site is dynamically generated using data taken from google docs, so there might be issues (google blocking traffic if there's too much, or you being unable to see any content if you are using a web browser that you haven't signed in in gmail), but this is only a draft - I will make a static version of the site once I'm done with most of the edits.

Since I developed the template myself, I decided to include something fresh and responsive, too. You can use the little check image next to each item to give it a "+1" - if you do this, the image will disappear and your preference will be stored, so we'll have a cumulative rating for each item (appearing right next to the check image) based on how many people have "+1"-it. This way we can rate each item based on how much the community likes it - which can be a strong opinion.

The code doesn't store any personal information to distinguish votes, so please vote with that in mind.

I intent to alter the code a bit later to reflect that with color codes - the color codes that appear are now my personal choices.

Resilient(Wis) wouldn't be a great feat choice for Mountain Dwarf clerics as clerics already get Wisdom saving throw proficiency. +2 Wis or +1/+1 would have more benefit.

You very much underrate potent cantrip.  You the same or more damage and only need 1 stat.

I mean...

4d8+Wis with sacred flame.

or

3d8+Str with a longsword. (+crits).

You do lose out on OA's.  Unless you have warcaster.

Also, welcome back DM! For those of you that don't know, DM created the guide format everyone here uses and produced some of the best guides for 3.5e.

Sacred Flame certainly isn't the best attack cantrip in the world (and would probably be rated red in a Wizard's arsenal), but for now, no Cleric should be going without it.

Hello again guys, thanks for the comments!

It seems that you are right about sacred flame. It's the necessary evil right now, I hope we get an attack cantrip that's better than that later.

What's most annoying to me about Potent Spellcasting is the Evocation Wizard has Potent Cantrip which works even with cantrips from other classes.

Would like to point out the color scheme's evolved to gold, sky blue, blue, black, purple, red. From take this now to avoid at all costs.

I didn't. You had red through light blue for increasing order of awesome, the average black for the average this, and the stand-out gold for things that really stand out.

I am not sure why you dislike sacred flame so much. It really isn't much different from any of the damage cantrips other classes get.

Sure, it cannot crit and it is harder to impose disadvantage on a save than it is to gain it on a roll to it... but also dex saves are likely to be lower than AC.

No cantrip will EVER deal damage on a miss. That was a thing in the playtest and they made sure to remove it entirely. It was too abusable.

Well no because Hex and Hunter's Mark both work on hits, not damage.

well, lol, no point talking about something that happened in the playtest. Let's not hijack the thread

Death Domain preview's up, if you want to get a head start.

Looks like a mixed bag. Reaper would be nice if there was another Necromancy cantrip besides crappy Chill Touch. Touch of Death and Inescapable Destruction are pretty good, though.

The preview is awesome, however it's too bad that the archetype isn't a 'minion master'-type of character.

All clerics can lead hordes of undead starting at level 5 - the level where they get animate dead, but War domain clerics also get a special benefit - the domain spell Crusader's Mantle (+1d4 to all allies in a radius); great choice if you have a few skeletons with a bow.

I dunno, in a way I'm kind of happy that it isn't a "minion master." The Death domain seems to be getting a lot of flak elsewhere as a particularly "antosocial" or "evil" domain as it is (although I disagree with said flak on the whole).

I dislike how you have to be evil to be an Oathbreaker. For one, nothing else to my knowledge is shoe-horned into an alignment and for two: what happens to non-evil paladins that break their oaths?

Hell I could be an evil vengence paladin sworn to kill some good guy, surely being an Oathbreaker would be a good thing?

Updated javascript to sort each list by <rating, color> or <rating, color, school> for spells.

The school images aren't mine, so I'll edit the original post to give credit where it's due.

Bless has received 16 votes, which is the highest.

Wisdom is currently ranked lower than strength and dexterity!
