#1 mrdaiquiri Oct 26, 2014 7:31:40	We've been playing 5e for a couple of sessions now; mines of phandelver campaign. Only the DM has played D&D before, so we've been spending most of these sessions doing what I believe is commonplace for first time adventurer's; we've been trying to 'win' at Dungeons and Dragons.   We've finally found our way and stopped meta-gaming, so our DM set us two lots of homework. Firstly he wants us to go thoroughly un depth with our pre-gens, so we know their stories, motivations, flaws, backstory, strengths, and weaknesses, like the backs of our hand; fine by me but this includes creating a distinguishing feature. So my question is would I be able to give my Folk Hero Fighter a peg leg without it impeding on anything else (movement +3 stealth etc.)? My inspiration is mostly my love of everything piratical, from Monkey Island to Jake & the Neverland Pirates.   The second piece of homework is to create a lego minifig of our characters, which is going to be cracking fun. Especially if the peg leg thing comes off.   Thanks for taking the time to read this.
#2 cowleymen Oct 26, 2014 8:45:29	IF you dm doesnt want it too it wont. Ask would have to ask him. Thats another thing besides not really "winning" ata c dnd, is that every table will work slightly differently and every dm will house rule (also called homebrew/ing) how much leeway story can get you before its too much. im going to guess its probably mid calf that your peg starts, and if its for good background, I dont see why not. If you have lots of pirate love, the Salior background is right up your alley, with features for both  a law abiding or a dreaded pirate. Ask if you can change your background.
#3 BRJN Oct 30, 2014 18:05:11	My wood elf's distinguishing feature is his hair: Brown on the top of his head gradually changing to dirty-blonde over his ears, with black pinstripes and small white spots in it.  He looks like a striped ground squirrel running around when his hair is blowing in the breeze. Put on a hood, and it's not visible to anybody any more.   I don't like anything that threatens to become a rules adjudication at an inopportune time.  A peg leg might be ruled to mess up your speed or stealth.  Then again, maybe you could blame the peg leg when your d20 isn't cooperating with you !
#4 Danny_Montanny Oct 31, 2014 4:28:23	Maybe your Folk Hero has never had a leg. That's why he's such a legend where he's from. "That kid can do more with his one leg than two of you lousy lubbers can do with four!"   Maybe he lost it in the battle that cemented his Folk Hero status. "You're damn right I went swimmin' into the Kraken's maw after me leg. It was me favorite one!"   Regardless of how it happened, you've learned to live with it and it shouldn't impede you at all. Any wise DM would see this as an opportunity for great story, not as a way to bring you down.
