|
| #2ShinQuickManNov 11, 2014 10:44:10 | Not entirely certain what you're asking, so I'll just shoot several responses and hope one of them helps the question.
If it's about attacking with a (presumably) hand crossbow while merely holding another weapon in the other hand, then yes, you do get the stat mod damage.
If it's as part of an attack from the bonus action due to dual wielding, then that's not possible, since it only works with melee attacks with light weapons, or thrown attacks with light weapons.
If it's from the bonus action from the Crossbow Expert feat, then yes, you do add the stat mod damage |
| #3YunruNov 11, 2014 11:47:36 | No, as "off-hand" doesn't exist. |
| #4PsikerlordNov 11, 2014 12:40:55 | unless you have th TWF fighting style from fighter or ranger, no you dont add stat damage to your bonus action hand crossbow attack. |

| #6IxidorRSNov 11, 2014 13:25:42 | If you mean the bonus action attack from crossbow mastery, then yes, you do add the stat. It does not work quite the same as TWF.
But wow, that would have been a good way to keep one of the arguments about Crossbow Expert from existing. Instead of what it says with the bonus action, have it say, "You can use hand crossbows as if they were light melee weapons for the purpose of two-weapon fighting."
You'd still have the loading argument, though. |

| #8PsikerlordNov 11, 2014 22:11:54 | I think it's within proper DM discretion on interpretation to say using two hand crossbows is similar to TWF, and thus you dont get stat dmg on the bonus attack , unless you have the fighter/ranger fighting style. I would also be inclined to apply this to polearm master bonus action attacks, too.
The devs thought it was important to restrict stat damage on the bonus action attack for TWF. I dont see why that should be avoided by taking crossbow expert feat, or polearm master feat. You basically get a fighter/ranger fighting style for free, along with the other benefits of the feat. Too good, imo. If you want the TWF fighting style, take a level in fighter. That would be my likely ruling.

| #10PsikerlordNov 12, 2014 3:20:32 | The feats provide very excellent bonuses already. They dont also need to also give +stat to bonus action damage. Indeed if you do allow such, you devalue the worth of the TWF fighting style for no good reason. From a game balance perspective, it is a poor ruling. Not a game breaking ruling, just an unnecessary one. |

Just kidding, I understood the question. I can't wait for the repeating hand crossbow to show up, presumably in the DMG. Gotta love John Woo gun-fu antics in certain over-the-top games! |
