Does the mage armor bonus apply in animal form? |
| #2Tempest_StormwindApr 17, 2015 11:55:29 | It's not a bonus - it's a formula.
Basically, the spell's duration continues as long as concentration's maintained, but you choose between AC 13 + Dex (this'll be the animal's Dex, since that's what stats you're using while wild shaped) -OR- AC [Whatever the animal form's AC is]
Incidentally, this is probably why Barkskin works the way it does. |
| #3melloredApr 17, 2015 11:57:42 | Yes, but it doesn't stack with the animals normal AC.
Most of the time it would be worth +3, but a brown bear, for instance, has 11 AC, and 10 Dex. So mage armor would give you 13+0 Dex = 13 AC, not 14.

This isn't a bonus, it's actually armor. If you transform into a creature that has armor (for instance, a Polar Bear from the DM Basic Rules has armor Class 12 (natural armor)) so it is effectively putting on armor, which ends the spell.
However, if you turn into a Saber-Toothed Tiger, you would get Armor Class 12 with no notes about any natural armor, so I don't think it would cancel the spell. So... it depends on the animal you change into. |

Oh well. |
