| #1Azazel_swculveJan 08, 2015 8:25:27 | Druids are OP even at low lvls... And at lvl 20 for that matter. This is my first post here so hi everyone.
2nd lvl wild shape Brown Bear two wild shapes of 34 HP, multiattack at lvl 2 is amazing, only character at lvl 2 with 2 attacks.
4th lvl wild shape Giant Octopus two wild shapes of 52 HP per short rest, 2d6 +3 dmg with an auto grappled and 15 ft reach..
6th lvl wild shape Giant Elk Good HP, 4d8+4 dmg, 60 ft spd
7th lvl spell Polymorph Giant Ape..... look at that 156HP and 3d10+6 dmg output.. All at lvl 7, and still have wild shapes after that.
You can also cast a concentration spell then wild shape and keep up the concentration.. Call Lightning, Conjure Animals (summon 8 Raven Swarms... each deals 2d6 dmg and can fly 60ft each turn doing fly by attacks..)
Another spell easily broken is Animal Shapes..
There's also the converting your spells to heals as bonus actions while wild shaped for better tanking Be a variant human and get Lucky as a feat, Resilence (Con ) is also good to have. God forbid you get to lvl 20 and wild shape every turn the reset your HP while slinging spells. So let's use the Shapechange spells to become a CR20 Pitfiend or Ancient Brass Dragon then if you actually bring that form to 0HP I'll turn into a 126HP Earth Elemental every turn that has a ton of immunities or a Mammoth with it's reasonable dmg of 4d10+7 (but why not just cast Call Lightning as a 8th lvl spell slot for 8d10 dmg a round for 10 mins (concentration) and resetting your HP to 126 every round.... |
| #2Rowan_WhispercloakJan 08, 2015 8:33:42 | If it make you feel better there isn't a wild shape form that exists that can survive a Power Word Kill. |
| #3Azazel_swculveJan 08, 2015 8:48:42 | @Rowan, Earth Elemental and Mammoth... Power Word Kill will only work if you knock down his HP a bit and then cast it in the same round. |
| #4LlenlleawgJan 08, 2015 8:54:12 | First of all, welcome to the forum!
|
| #5melloredJan 08, 2015 8:56:41 | Moon druids are very good tanks, but they tend to do little damage (paticularly with the low to-hit most creatuers have). Thus, monsters can monstly walk around them and kill something else, like the wizard.
But yes, they are a bit on the OP side. |

| #7Azazel_swculveJan 08, 2015 9:19:42 | I would just write a 3 page backstory subtly involving many of these beasts into it (Giant Ape, Giant Octopus mostly, if you're a druid and haven't seen a brown bear.. Well..)), have the back story approved then build my character. |

| #9SorxoresJan 08, 2015 9:42:58 | I am missing something?
|
| #10Azazel_swculveJan 08, 2015 9:58:35 | I mean I killed a 9th level Wizard NPC as a 5th lvl Druid in a gladiator match by casting Call Lighting then turning into a Giant Octopus and just calling 3d10 dmg down for 3 rounds, he couldn't get through 52 hp then 52 hp then my normal 44 hp before I knocked his 40 hp to zero... If I'd chosen Conjure Animals (8 Raven Swarms) and then WildShaped that's 2d6x8 (avg 56 dmg if all hit...) dmg from the Raven potientally and my 146 theoretical hp not including converting spell slots to heals while WildShaped as a Bonus Action. All at lvl 5. Big deal if I can only turn into say a tiger at 37hp at lvl 5 because I haven't seen a better form, that's still 74 hp plus my own hp and heals, with the above offensive concentration spells lol |

| #12Azazel_swculveJan 08, 2015 10:00:23 | Shin is correct, 7th lvl get giant ape, 150ish hp cast that then my wildshapes after |
| #13LlenlleawgJan 08, 2015 10:00:27 | OK, what's the deal with DMs allowing Giant Octopuses to be effective on land? Am I missing something? |
| #14YunruJan 08, 2015 10:05:40 | Also note that (iirc) Druids only get 2 wildshapes. Which means unless they're willing to stay in, say, Mammoth form whilst the party ventures into town the Druid's got to manage his resources carefully. |
| #15Azazel_swculveJan 08, 2015 10:05:51 | They can hold their breath on land for 1 hour, land speed 10ft |
| #16Azazel_swculveJan 08, 2015 10:08:09 | @Yunru, by the time they are using Mammoth they have unlimited WildShapes at lvl 20. Not that it matters, before lvl 20 take a short rest get your WildShapes back |

| #21etceteraJan 08, 2015 10:46:41 | Once you get to 7th level and polymorph a group mate into a beast you haven't encountered, can you shape change into that? |
| #22Azazel_swculveJan 08, 2015 10:55:53 | The wizard didn't know Counterspell he did cast Icestorm but I made the save for half dmg, he didn't break my concentration. |
| #23Azazel_swculveJan 08, 2015 11:05:47 | Reading Counterspell... None of us realized how good that spell is... |

| #40Azazel_swculveJan 09, 2015 12:03:01 | Okay... My point is it was a a 9th lvl NPC CR6 (not an optimized one) or one that was played ruthlessly, I only beat him because we threw raw dmg back and forth, I was surprised I could do that and keep up. All my spells besides Call Lightning are utility, my forms I can use for combat, scouting, or utility, the fact they Tank so well, have full spellcasting and ultility options make the class so good. Any class can be countered, but without even trying really they're a tier 1 tanking class, full spellcaster and very versatile. |
