Howdy, I am new to making a 5e character and have been trying to look all over but I cant seem to understand exactly how many spells I know. The book seems to say I know 3 cantrips and 4 1st level but then ive read online people saying that I know all of them as a Cleric and can only cast that many between rests. So I was hoping someone could clarify? and maybe look over my character sheet and telling me what I am missing or if I did anything wrong. http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheet.html#id=111235

Much appreciated in advance! I always have trouble with the spell part of characters.

I am not at my books but if i recall as a cleric you know them all but each long rest you choose 3 you can cast that day. You can cast the cantrips as many times as you like  but you are limited to the 3 you chose until your next long rest. At that time you can select the same 3 again or choose other cantrips from your list to replace them.

Clerics know a limited number of cantrips (specified on the Cleric Table p.57), and they know every other non-cantrip Cleric spell.

However this doesn't mean they can cast whatever spell they want. They have to prepare spells before they can cast them each day. Role-playing wise, this means every morning clerics pray, or do some other routine, and are granted a number of different spells from their god.

How many different spells they are granted each day depends on their (Cleric Level) + (Wisdom Modifier).

So if a lvl 1 Cleric with a 16 wisdom (+3 wisdom modifier) prepares spells in the morning, they would be able to choose 4 different spells. (lvl 1 Cleric) + (3 Wisdom Modifier) = 4

On top of this, they always have certain spells prepaired based on their Domain. For example, a lvl 1 Cleric of the Life domain always has bless and cure wounds prepaired. So every morning when they wake up, they don't have to prepare those spells, they get them prepared 'for free' . . . so they can choose to prepare other Cleric spells.

This means our lvl 1 Cleric with 16 Wisdom and the Life domain would have 6 different spells prepared. They would know bless and cure wounds because they are domain spells, and they would choose 4 other spells to prepare each morning.

Even though our Cleric has 6 different spells prepaired, they can only cast two first level spells at lvl 1, before they've exhausted their two level 1 spell slots. They can cast the same spell twice, or two different spells. Then they would need a long rest, and prepare their spells again in the morning!

I hope that makes sense. Sorry I didn't havea  look at your character sheet - but if I get more time a little later I'll take a peek!

I had a look at the character sheet, and everything looks good mechanically!

Before playing it would definitely be worth writing down what 3 cantrip spells your Cleric knowns (maybe in the 'Other Notes' section). As these cantrips become permanent choices once selected (but can be cast an infinite amount of times per day since they don't use up daily spell-slots when cast). It also helps to write down your domain spells (bless and cure wound) which will always be prepared -- and make sure you have room for the four other Cleric spells you'll be preparing each morning.

The only other thing missing is filling out the Personality, Ideal, Bond, and Flaw.  Then Dakamin Altor is god to go!

Oh, and one last note. I might change:

3 Cantrips, 2 1st-level spells, 1 Domain spell.
