Greetings,

Looking for recommendations between BattleMaster or Champion for this character

I'm struggling between archetypes for my newly generated human variant 3Fighter/2Rogue. I took sharpshooter as his first feat and will next select crossbow expert and alert in that order. I plan to finish him with 11fighter/9rogue.

I'm going with the extra d6 over an additional feat or ASI. He will max out dex and con with my remaining two ASL

Now, since he's not melee, I thought taking BM for the trip attack and other attack options (trip attack does not specify melee weapon attack), but the Champion feat with Improved Critical and second fighting style (TWF) has its benefits as well. The DM seems pretty generous  ability to take short rest (thus far), so taking short rests probably will not be an issue.

Profeciencies:

Fighter: Insight, Acrobatics

Rogue: Perception

Background: Stealth, Deception, Thieves' Tools

Variant Sleight of Hand

Ive read more threads and guides..thanks Glaguis...but still looking for more advice. I know I have time, but I prefer to plan ahead.

Much Appreciated

You have a guaranteed critical on the assassinate attacks and nothing that activates on critical, so the champion benefits are diminished.

If by first feat archery you mean sharpshooter, then by all means take the precision attack maneuver from the battlemaster arsenal. Goading attack is also not back for some crowd control on targets engaged in melee with your friends. Trip attack is of course nice.

Maxing Con is not really needed for a ranged rogue, but you can consider Magic Initiate feat - this will allow you to take Find Familiar for an owl that can help you gain advantage in combat by using the help action and flying back to safety and can help you scout. You can also pick mage hand and minor illusion that are perfect for a rogue.
