We are about to start a new 5e campaign and I'm considering a Human Monk. We are using the variant human rules, so I get to pick a feat. I am at a loss though on which particular feat to select. A couple seem good, Lucky and Durable stand out to me, but is there a general consensus as to what feats are good?
Or, if you were in my spot, what would you pick?
Thanks. |

Mobile synergizes incredibly well with pretty much any monk build allowing you to travel around the battlefield freely. Lately I've been thinking about Mobile in combination with Charger and what that would open up to a monk build.
Alert is really important for any melee build and also synergizes well due to the already high DEX you're likely to have.
Lucky has use for any class or build and def comes in handy, but it's best use is in conjunction with halfing and/or bard.
Tavern Brawler or Grappler can be really useful for a STR monk as well.
Personally I think Mobile and Alert are the two big ones though.

Athlete. +1 Dex OR +1 STR, standing up from prone is only 5' move, doubles climbing speed, futher running jump. Generally feels very much in the style of what Monks are.
Martial Adept: Get 1D6 superiority dice and two maneuvers, if you see one you thnks rather cool.
Mage Slayer is kinda niche... but is actually very much what I've felt the Monk is designed for, resisting magic attacks and killing spellcasters. Advantage on all Saving Throws from spells cast within 5' is pretty awesome. Uses your Reaction.
Magic Adept: Since you have a reasonably high WIS anyway, if you've got two cantrips you think would be awesome to take.
Mobile: Lets you have a silly speed, and not worry so much about oppertunity attacks.
Sentinel if you want to give tactical control, but does make you more likely to be attacked by monsters. Uses your Reaction. |

Sentinel + Polearm Mastery (either one at first is good) can make for a nice controlling build. Combine with Way of the Open Hand's Flurry to prone ability, or the elemental ability Water Whip and you can be very sticky. Three levels of Fighter can also get you 4 prone's per short rest for OA proning. |
