Do you guys have any ideas for fun/interesting MAD builds that normally wouldnt work with the standard aray or low rolls? Our DM is running a casual game where we start at level 1 and our stats can add up to 72, no other restrictions. So I could do 20, 20, 20, 6, 6, 0 as an example. Again, this is a casual game so I am looking for something fun.

I'm tempted to suggest you be a reallly old wizard with 0 Con...

because even if you survive level 1 without breaking a hip, you'd die when you reached level 2.

I'm not gonna touch that whole wonky stat buy thing, or the zero stat wierdness.

But I'm having an absolute blast playing my Assassin/Shadow Monk/Archfey Bladelock. It's a bit of a MAD build, but I rolled insanely well and felt the need to take advantage of the abundance or ability riches. He's got a lot of synergies and options available to him. I'm lovin' it so far.

He's mostly monk right now because I really want to get to the 6th level shadow monk teleport ability. So cool. But we are only 8th currently. So he's Rogue 1/Monk 5/Warlock 2. No idea if we'll make it to 20th.

Once I get to that Monk 6 I'm shooting for, I'll probably go back to working on rogue. I doubt I'll ever go past Warlock 3 at any point (since a couple invisibility spells per sort rest is good enough for me). If I had to guess, if we do ever get to 20th, I'll probably be something like Assassin 11/Shadow Monk 6/Archfey Bladelock 3. But I don't plan things out too regidly in advance. I've been letting my current needs, and the campaign's direction, help guide my choices as I go.

Very cool. I read that Paladins are good with high starting stats too. So many choices!

Yeah. In my case, the group decided to roll stats. I voted point buy due to my traditionally bad stat rolling tendancies. Got out voted. Still, I ended up rolling 17, 17, 16, 15, 14, 9*. I was shocked. But decided to take advantage of it by playing something cool I could only really manage well with such an overabundance.

(*Going half-elf, I started with STR 9, DEX 18, CON 14, INT 15, WIS 18, CHA 18!)

I havent played a caster on a while. Is there a good multiclass option for a caster given this weird point buy system?

With that mix, I recommend going dwarven wizard. You get to start with Med Armor and since there's no penalty for getting a single high stat, the fact that your natural bonus is +2 Str and +2 con becomes just a plain old +4 to your stats.

Str: 8

Dex: 16

Con: 16

Int: 20

Wis: 8

Cha: 8

Yeah, a 0 in a stat doesn't exist. It's not in the books, even though the Intellect Devourer can make you have 0 INT... Also, I don't see how dumping all but 3 stats makes a good MAD character... Sounds like an optimized character to me.

Anyways, just look at multiclasses of classes you like that have a lot of stat requirements, like a Monk/Bard or even something like a super beefy wizard. You could make a really interesting character that way.

18 , 18 , 18 , 12 , 3 , 3 ... would allow a +1 feat somewhere

20 , 20 , 20 , 6 , 3 , 3 ... restricts things to Wis/Dex builds

15 , 15 , 15 , 15 , 13 , 3 ... and be Human not Variant.

The point-buy advantage of your homegame system

are the 7s and down , the 14s and 15s , and the 16+s.
