Generosity at its best. 2nd attack trade

As most people know, if you MC into another class and it gives you a second attack, you don't recieve another attack if your origonal already has a 2nd attack, assuming the apropriate level.

If you were being nice, what would you give a person instead of another attack at that level?

Would like for other people to MC into another class if they want, but not have a dead level at 5.

The first thing that comes to mind is an additional fighting style from the class list that would have gained extra attack.

I would simply skip that level and take whatever you get at level 6.  i.e. a ranger5/fighter4 would skip fighter 5 and get a ABI/Feat from fighter 6.

Though not things like spell slots and ki.

What page can I find the rules you guys are talking about with regards to MC'ing and not gaining additional attacks like you describe?  I have a player who is attempting to do this and I would like to be able to show him so he can avoid the pitfall.

If you don't want to bite off the Champion Fighter's benefits by giving the player an extra Fighting Style, might I suggest...

1. Proficiency with a Weapon or Armor of their Choice
2. Proficiency in a Tool or Kit of their Choice (Possibly Class-Related?)
3. Proficiency in a Skill associated with their Classes List.

I like multiclassing, but I hate hick-ups while leveling. I like more smooth progression and I don't think it would hurt anything if someone got a small bonus instead just a HP roll. Kind of takes the fun out of the leveling if you multiclass two figher-esk classes. I just think it gives another small reason for people to be turned off of multiclassing.

If a person has a reason to multiclass their character, I don't think they should be punished because of it. I played a barbarian who had a reason to multi into fighter, his brother died and he thought if he could just work harder at his fighting skills and not just rage he would be better suited to protect people. Wether or not it's actually better mechanically, that was his reasoning and I didn't really want to go to fighter 5 because of the "dead level", kind of foiling my desire to multiclass.

Warlock isn't part of this discussion. He can just pick a different invocation and use the other classes second attack. That's bonus enough.

I would give a feat / ASI.

If you're MCing this option, you've surely got a reason to do it even without getting the second attack.

There are other places where levels feel a bit dead, so I don't really see a problem.

If you are homegaming, you could give the character some noncombat magic item that lets you hand-wave something that otherwise entails a lot of boring paperwork.  (4e Basket of Everlasting Provisions comes to mind.  For fluff make it divinely conceived, so it offers only Fish on Friday and your midnight snack is usually Milk and Honey.)
