So Im finally getting to use my 5e PHB in an upcoming one shot. (Maybe full campaign if we convince the DM's wife that its a lot of fun to play.)

And I have designed a Goliath Barbarian 1/Fighter 3 (Battle Master)

Want to run my mechanichal choices through the gambit and then the RP idea.

Ragnar Bear-slayer Gathakanathi
Barbarian 1/ Fighter 3 (Battle-master)

                Str: 16                   HP: 38
                Con:14                  Attacks: +5 (2d6 (Maul) +3)
                Dex:14
                Int: 08
                Wis:14
                Cha:10
Gear: 1 Maul, 1 greatsword, Scale Mail (16AC)

Skills: Athletics, Animal Handling, Intimidation, Insight, Perception

Abilities:

Fighting Style: Great Weapon fighting: when you roll a 1 or a 2 on a damage die for an attack you make with a melee weapon that you are wielding in two hands, you can reroll the die and must use the new roll, even if the new roll is a 1 or a 2.. (must have the 2 handed or versatile property for this effect.)

Martial Archetype: Battle Master

Menacing attack, Parry, Pushing Attack.

Student of War (Path):  You gain proficiency in blacksmithing tools.

backstory: Ragnar was seperated from his tribe in a giant attack at the age of 6. He was almost taken as a slave, but managed to escape. He fled the mountains in fear, and was intercepted by a northern raiding party. One of the raiders, Gunthar, took pity on him and brought him home where he was raised. At the age of 22 Ragnar has left home to search for his tribe.

If you ever want to use heavy armor, make sure to take the fighter level at 1st level to gain profeciency in it! :D You loose 2 HP, but it's nice to have profeciency with everything.

I like the build! It's very similar to what I'm using! =)

For my Battle Manuevers I went with Disarming Attack, Precision Attack and Pushing Attack.

I took Disarming Attack for flavor reasons. My Fighter fights brutally and he fights dirty, so he WILL whack your weapon out of your hand, then kick it away. xD Then I took Precision Attack because the ability to turn misses into hits is amazingly effective! I love Menacing Attack, and I am deifnitely taking it later for flavor reasons. And pushing attack is too much fun to not take!!

Looks like a lot of fun!

Awesome!

I've been spending time on a variant version (A variant human (Or as it is quickly being called the only human worth playing)Paladin.)

Im loving both builds *might shift this one to a human as well. Fix the stats a bit, and get Great Weapon master*

And Rage specifies that it wont work in Heavy Armor. (At least how I read it)

Based on my Pally build (that I am loving the shiz out of story wise so I think he's winning.)

Where the variant human really shines is that feat. Just using the baseline stats I made something potent with it, that has a feat, and has a +4 at level 4. (because the Pally isn't taking any MCs so he can have the ability score.)

And that feat is just plain wicked on an Avenging Paladin with a greatsword.

I already reroll 1's and 2's with that proto Brutal ability for greatswords (something I wish that barbrians had) getting a free slap on a crit or kill just makes it gravy, and when i go avenging on some Boss I can take the -5 to hit to try and slap on 10 damage.

To repeat McDonalds slogans, I am lovin it.

And Heavy armor for dessert.
