Good Deity for Oath of the Ancients Paladin?

So the fluff states that the Oath is "as old as the race o f elves and the rituals o f the druids." The Druid fluff says that Druids usually worship groups of gods, not one singular god, owing to nature have many facets or whatever.

Even though my character is Oath of the Ancients, he's still a paladin, so I want him to be devout to a deity. I guess to play up the ancient origin of the Oath, I would want some primordial or ancient nature god or pantheon. I'm not up enough on the lore to know which gods fit the bill. The PHB simply labels certain gods, like Silvanus as "Nature."

Any suggestions?

General forgotten realms setting. Would silvanus work as well?

yep, any god with Nature in his protfolio is a good bet. I would say Arch Fey could be good bets as well

These gods are "ancient" enough to be considered someone you would swear an oath to? For some reason, I read the description as something akin to a power even before the gods. Is this not actually correct?

The evocative descriptions in the PHB are meant to be generally true across gaming worlds and do not always square with any one, particular setting. The idea being evoked with the druid and the Oath of the Ancients is an important part of the lore behind Medieval myth and legend, i.e. that there was an Old Faith (i.e. paganism) prior to the coming of, and being gradually displaced by, the New Faith (i.e. Christianity). Translated into D&D terms, we can think of druids and OotA paladins as reaching back to the "old ways", clerics and Oath of Devotion paladins part of the "new ways". (Anyone familiar with The Village of Hommlet, with most villagers following the Old Faith led by the druid in his grove, while others, including the local lords, following St. Cuthbert, the New Faith being established in the region by the Viscount.)

In any event, for Forgotten Realms, stick with Nature gods, the kinds of gods druids might honor, and you'll be just fine.

I would go down the path of primal nature spirits and Fey, to differentiate the path from the other god-worshippers

- 4e Primal Power describes "the spirits", which could be what comes to your Paladin's aid.

- I had a Dwarven Invoker of Silvanus, the god of "nature red in tooth and claw".  His job was to investigate when many animal deaths were not balanced by sated carnivores' hunger.

- Any of the Nature portfolio deities would be fine; they have a deeper connection to the Natural World than your typical god/dess.

- You could also use the name (only) of a suitable non-FR deity, to give a sense of "lost ancient knowledge" to your character.  Obod-hai, anyone?

- In FR you could also use Selune or Shar, the two great goddesses that came into being with the creation of the Prime Material Universe.  But this is a lesser part of their portfolios / lore.

- Can you get a copy of the movie Excalibur?  Merlin's magic is rooted in the land.  May serve as inspiration.
