#1 SnigTheWorg Jul 21, 2015 10:11:14	Hey everyone. I'm planning on playing a Fighter / Warlock and i'm struggling with my attribute points and armor selection.   I want to be a Battle Master Fighter, using a maul and taking the great weapon fighting feat. I also plan on taking some levels of Fiend warlock. This build has a bit of synergy with temp HP from fiend / armor of agathys, as well as wanting to be hit to react with riposte strike, and hellish rebuke while also dealing damage from armor of agathys and fire shield.   Also, with all the great warlock spells and invoctions that help with sneaking, and being stealthy, such as invisibility, darkness and one with shadows, i'm really bummed about taking heavy armor and getting disadvantage on stealth.   I'm wondering if you guys know of any synergy with wearing heavy armor and using spells such as invisibility? I'll still have to make a stealth check to remain unnoticed I believe? Same as casting Darkness and trying to sneak in heavy armor? It's not really going to work afaik?   And what about one with shadows? Does anyone know any particularly good uses for this invoction? In a warlock guide posted here i've read the follow    "One with Shadows [Req lvl5]:  Surprisingly better than you’d think.   Mostly because this is the only Invisibility spell available that’s not Concentration based.   When combined with Silence and Disguise Self, warlocks can make a surprisingly good sneaks without ever needing the skills.   "   I've thought about it, but i'm not sure how "Silence" and Disguise Self" synergize with this invoction?   So now i'm considering going with 14 Dex and taking medium armor (breastplate), this would at least allow me to stealth wihtout disadvantage, but i'm making out at 16 AC, (17 if I take a feat), and it also makes me MAD as hell.   Can anyone offer me any suggestions?
#2 mellored Jul 21, 2015 10:29:02	A fighter can wear medium armor.   Also, if you boost your Dex, light armor becomes competitive.

#4 Yunru Jul 21, 2015 10:55:40	Yeah, yeah it is. The solution to heavy armor offering disadvantage on stealth checks is to not wear heavy armor. That or lucky.
#5 Bloodscythe Jul 21, 2015 11:07:25	He covered that in the original post.  He doesn't want to have to invest points into dexterity to grant the +3 AC that medium armor with the feat can allow.   But that's the point of their response.  There's a give and take.  If you want the advantages of heavy armor, you also have to accept the disadvantages.   Wanting to only have to boost str and cha, have the highest AC possible in the game, minus the shield, and be dealing 2d6+5+X damage with a maul... there's going to be something this character isn't amazing at.  This character isn't good at sneaking around.
#6 mellored Jul 21, 2015 11:11:12	Well without dex and with disavantage, your effectivly -9.  Expertise (3 levels of bard, since you don't have dex for rogue) can make up 6 of that. Meaning you could actually achive stealth against unprecpetive creatures.    Lucky definatly helps too, turning your disavantage into an advantage. Also, hex can reduce an enemy's perception checks.

I guess one of the questions that I was trying to ask in my poorly worded original post, was whether or not there are magical means / spells that can overcome the disadvantage imposed by wearing heavy armor.   And also that part I quoted about one with shadows? Anyone have any idea of the synergy he was referi9ng too with that ability and disguise self / silence?   Edit: Another interesting point, can you cast hex on an enemy without them knowing it?
#8 mellored Jul 21, 2015 11:33:04	Anything that gives you advantage, like a friendly trickster cleric, will counter the disavantage.   Silence allows you to kill things without alerting the next room. Disguise self is simply to fool enemies.  More of a bluff skill then a stealth one IMO.

#18 ArialBlack Jul 21, 2015 21:25:57	My paladin2/warlock3 has mithral plate, proficiency in Stealth, and the Heavy Armour Mastery feat. His Dex is only 8, but his Stealth is +2 and he does not have disadvantage on Stealth checks.
#19 SnigTheWorg Jul 23, 2015 12:08:57	Hey guys, i'm still trying to figure out the usefulness of "One with the Shadows" and "Silence".    In this guide http://community.wizards.com/forum/player-help/threads/4133456 the author mentions twice how well One with the shadows and silence work together.   I'm just not seeing it. One with the Shadows lets you turn invisible in dim or dark light as an action. But if you move or take an action the invisibility breaks.   Am I missing something? What the mechanical benifit of casting silence?
