Can anyone help me make a stealth archer themed character?

I was thinking of making a stealth archer character that scouts and positions myself in the surrounding area, firing from max range with the sharpshooter feat and intitatng fights with picks before the close range combatants went in.

Thats the main gist of what I want. To accomplish this basically requires only a long range bow and sharpshooter feat.

However, the problem I'm having is what class I should take. Personally I want a lot of flavor in this character, and want it to be viable but not nesscessarily optimal or min-maxed.

Flavor Themes I'm Considering and Why I'm having a tough time deciding

- Conjured Bow (Taking some inspiration off of Skyrim) (Seems to be in the Warlock or Eldritch Knight Department)
- Sniper usually implies Sneak Attack (Rogue Department), Also cunning action is an awesome feature,
- Summoned Companion? Preferably magical. (Guess this fits a bit into Beastmaster maybe, or something else)

I also am not very good at managing multi-class because I tend to become overzealous and try to fit everything and optimize everything even when I tell myself not to. So any help in multi-class suggestions or solutions to be quandry would be very helpful.

TLDR

I want a class or multi-class that will allow me to strategically position myself on the edges (or even out of the map), use sharpshooter max range, and snipe enemies. Stealth to avoid direct confrontation, is important. And I would prefer to have the flavor of a magical archer as well with summoned support. However if this is not possible it's acceptable.

fighter, rogue or ranger, or a combination of each will do.

Fighter does the most at-will damage.

Rogue has skills.

Ranger has spells.

Seems to me you want rogue 2, fighter 4, and the rest ranger.

Okay I think I'll go 5 fighter 3 assassin if I'm starting out lvl 8. Or maybe invest for a 2 fighter, 3 assassin 5 warlock build path, at lvl 10.

Fighter will give me a lot of damage and ASI but warlock will give me a magical conjured bow, devils sight, an additional invocation, invisibility which will help a ton...

Actually definately going the fighter, assassin warlock haha. Probably go human for the additional feat, since I already get darkvision, or maybe wood elf would be better to hide easier, but maybe invisiblity will offset that?

Any opinions? I personally am not 100% sure how hide works. I just know you can't do it in plain sight.

EDIT: CRAP does warlock pact of blade only allow melee weapons to be your pact weapon?

Pact of the Blade is melee only mostly, IMO, because being a Part Blade typically means using spells like Armor of Agathys and Hellish Rebuke. Playing a risk/reward style of melee. Trying to get hit so you can punish your foes. Being at ranged is contrary to that philosophy.

I like assassin 17 battlemaster 3 for a sniper. That's got a big attack for sniper shots and adds great skill options plus push, trip, and precision attacks available in superiority dice / manuevers adds some interesting ranged options.

I think I'll go with 3 rogue 2 fighter and 5 ranger (if I start at lvl 8 I'll just put my next two levels into ranger)

- Gives me an long range assassinate burst

- Better tracking

- magical flavor
- Cunning Action

- Better or equivalent stealth
- Nice archery themed spells.

EDIT: Actually nvm, the DM is being stubborn and telling me that the civilization we live in (number only like 100 people), have no idea what is on the surface, they have no idea what happened on the surface, all information about the surface is forbidden and I know literally nothing about anything outside the caves we live in.

I'm not gonig to risk playing a ranger class when the DM literally obstinately refuses to give any information at all on what kind of nature I should expect, and if I can't even likely use my rangers favored terrain or favored enemy in its limited capacity, then screw it.

A bit irritated. Considering from the looks of it, this DM wants everything to be a suprise, so he isin't working with the players. Might as well choose a build that is viable at all times and can deal crap tons of damage...

I'll make sure to the use the sniper build when I'm in a world where I actully know my surroundings.

rogue assasin 3/fighter 5 is lowest for really efective sniper.

Take alert feat so you can get first in initiative so you can have advantage in round 2 of combat.

that is 4 attacks in first round if you spend action surge. they all crit. plus bonus action from rogue.

2nd round 2 attack with advantage.

one sneak attack per round.

What about a Valorous Bard?

You get a lot of those spells that help you hide and snipe, and you can use long bows to fight with.

Want a magical companion? What about Pact of the Chain? Fighter 1 for Archery style and Con proficiency. Rogue 3 for Assassinate. Warlock up to 8 for Greater Invisibility and stat bump. Back to Rogue from there.

For conjuring beasts you could get a bag of tricks. The animals it produces have no real limitations other than being randomized and I think they take less of an Acton to command than other animals.

Also I'd actually say that you should go 4 rogue/4 fighter. Get the two feats (sharpshooter and crossbow expert)

Bard levels could get you misty step and teleportation spells.
