Help Making My Boxer

Hello!

So this is my first thread and I made this account to get some help on making my dream character. For a brief summary his name is Harper Strongarm. He is 1 of 4 of a generation of Strongarms being sent to return glory to the family name. He is for the most part a straight up boxer. My 2 inspirations is a man that does amazing feats of strength (lifting huge rocks and taking a insane beating) and a character from Full Metal Alchemist called Alex Louis Armstrong. He is a charasmatic badass.

Here is a link of him doing his thing http://i.imgur.com/LWTopQv.webm

The character would be human and he is really for me to roleplay super hardcore.

So I want him to charasmatic, strong, and be able to take a punch from just about anything (Plus I don't really want him to wear armor). But I have no idea when it comes to classes. I am so confused on how unarmed works and how make him stay alive like I want. I don't see him being a monk is the biggest probelm and I really just wanna opt for a more raw damage and grappling on ocasion. Maybe I'm asking too much I dunno.

I also will be playing him in my Adventures League as I don't have any where else to play. Hope you guys can help sorry if I wrote this poorly.

I think your going to need some help from your DM for this one. Mainly, see if you can use Str/Cha in place of Dex/Wis for a monk. (10+Str+cha for AC, and Cha for your monk moves). that will keep balace pretty much the same.

You only have room for one. Your other ASI are better spent on first your attack stat, then you Constitution.

Nope, one feat or two +1s per ASI I'm afraid. Which once you max Str and Con means you'll have precisely 1 ASI left. Which you may want to spend on Dexterity. Wow Barbarians are MAD.

Str is the attacj stat, max it. Dex is +1 AC, Dex Save and Dex Check. Con is +1 AC, Con Save, Con Check and HP.

To be fair he doesn't *need* Tavern Brawler, it's at most +3 damage and on average +1.5. Which would open up the race. Perhaps a Half-Elf with a post-racial 16 Str, 16 Con, 14 Cha, 13 Dex, 8 Int, 8 Wis?

Now that I look at thing in Barb I would end up doing a lot if I just use my rage when I need to and the perks of Path Of The Berserker.

If it weren't for the strong part Monk would be perfect. Fits the boxer idea to a T, has decent damage when punching stuff, etc.

The two 17s would be Dex and Wis, the two 13s Cha and Str. That leaves a regular Human with 18 in both primaries and the strength and charisma you were looking for. Plus you could float like a butterfly. That is, up a wall.

Still say Monk would be better. You'd being doing upwards of 30 DPR on average, able to stun the with your fists and, if you go Open Hand, eventually kill them with your awesome.

Except the Monk would by all definitions be strong, have a decent unarmed strike, an AC of 20, be able to punch people into submission AND kill people with his awesome. Oh and do the classic boxer's bob and weave what with their speed. And it is a boxer we're after after all, not a brawler.

If you are playing in Adventurers League, you can't roll stats.

Major Armstrong being one of my favorite characters I'd go with this build.

Barbarian 1 to pick up the raging and unarmored defense dex/con version.

Monk 19 taking the way of the four elements at  monastic tradition.

For the elemental disciplines go with Fist of Unbroken Air(refluffed to be punching his big iron darts), eternal mountain defense(cause he's tough as hell), wave of rolling earth(cause what alchemist can't make walls of stone) and the rest is your choice.

pg14 Armor Class section 4th paragraph: If you have multiple features that give you different ways to calculate your AC, you choose which one to use. Woohoo no more wisdom on major armstrong.

pg78 Martial arts first bullet point: you can use dex instead of strength for unarmed attacks. Meaning woohoo pump strength and get that belt of giants strength for even more fun.

Human starting stats taking feat option.

str 16(includes human)

dex 14

con 14(includes human)

int 8

wis 10

cha 12

Feat: Grappler or Tough

Background is either Noble or Soldier so probably take Persuasion as my human skill

Swap dex for cha for taste(I prefer combat stats).

Because of multi-classing and wanting to get the iconic punching iron spikes right off the bat the character is best built starting at level 4.

Ugh, using the point buy, you'd want to do something like: 15, 15, 13, 12, 8, 8... but this leaves you with -1 to any int or wis checks or saves.

Then with the human variant, with tavern brawler, you can have:

Str 16 (+1 from tavern brawler), con 16 (+1 from human trait), dex 14 (+1 from human trait), int 8, wis 8, cha 12

This gives you the following:

class: barbarian

hit dice: d12

hit points: 15

to hit: +5

damage: 1d4 + 3, (+2 more if raging)

AC: 15, 17 with shield

You could switch dex and cha if you want to get the Inspiring Leader feat (which requires a cha of 13 or higher), or set each of them to 13, adding the +1 human trait to the 12 in the array instead of the 13.  Your ASI are all tied up in stat boosts... 4th to pick up another feat if you want one, but then using the other 4 to boost str and con to 20.  Or give up a 2nd feat to boost dex and/or cha.

This creates a MAD since your concept requires decent str, con, and cha, and dex is necessary for survivability if you don't want to wear armor.

Monk would be in the same situation since it would require dex and wis and your concept would want decent con and cha.

Part of the problem with this build is that the character as described in the fiction has too many really good stats, and thus isn't a good model for a character in D&D.

Indeed. All characters start at 1st level but up to and including 4th level the character can be completely remade with the exception of equipment (both magical and otherwise), name, gold, and XP.

I did it twice before I hit level 5 in my AL group. Started as a fighter because it was easy to make and a reasonable choice when you are level one and everyone else is level 3 or 4, switched to rogue at level 2, made him an assassin and then switced to Arcane Trickster at level 4 as getting the assassination attempt would have been far too much trouble with how large our group is (although the advantage on the first round of combat vs. a target that hasn't gone yet is nice. You can almost always sneak attack that way)
